Remember when I mentioned that Fresh Direct facility tour and dinner… and I won a tour of the local farms from which Fresh Direct sources a lot of its local produce? I finally went on that tour, and got to meet Jeff Rottkamp of Fox Hollow Farms. He showed us around and explained a lot of the finer nuances of running a farm, things that would never occur to me – why would they? I don’t know the first thing about running a family farm! – and just amazed us with his knowledge. Here’s a shot of Jeff picking Sungolds. You [...]

TT sent me a link to Taste of 7th Street, where for $18 you get a ‘taste’ of five different establishments along 7th Street. I’d wanted to try a couple of the places included anyway, so this seemed like the perfect opportunity to do so at a discounted rate (the above is my ticket with all my stamps)Our first stop was Luke’s Lobster. I’d arrived a lil late, so I wound up jumping on line with TT, CT and TC and skipping the wait that was forming. Phew. Sorry to those I skipped! The menu is rustically written on a chalkboard [...]

Caesar salad, which was alright, pretty standard, nothing amazing. The dressing was really flavorful though – very garlicky and creamy, which was pretty cool. Not sure if they make it themselves, but I wasn’t complaining. The lobster roll, however… well, last time I’d complained that it was missing that sweet lobster taste. [...]

After a bit of drinking (okay, a lot), HB, AB and I wandered around in the frigid cold looking for something to eat. After a Knife + Fork FAIL, we stumbled into Mermaid Inn which happily accomodated us best they could – we were seated within 5 minutes. The hostess, whoever she is (didn’t catch her name) was actually SUPER nice and “Oh I totally want to see you eat here!” and really did try to get things settled quickly as possible. Very sweet.I thought this was a cool paper-butter-lid. (I was also toasted.)My drink. I forget what it was, but [...]
