The Highliner

The next morning – a bright, unseasonably warm Sunday – found me really craving brunch.  It’d been a while since I’d had brunch (as you can see by that tag, which is used mostly by TT), but I’d recently read about The Highliner on Tasty Eating.  Perfect for its proximity to both DLS’s apartment and our next stop, Chelsea Piers for the batting cages!  (And I now have video of me hitting 5 balls in a row!  No editing required.  I fouled them all, but I still hit them!)  A brisk walk down the Highline and we decided to sit [...]

Highpoint Bistro & Bar (Brunch)

After sleeping in the day after we held the Father’s Day Gift Dinner feast, we decided to meet up with CT’s Father for brunch since he was in town the whole weekend and we didn’t get a chance to meetup yet. CT & I wanted to go to P.C. Richards to check out some new stoves, so we decided to go somewhere nearby. I remembered that Highpoint Bistro & Bar was nearby and offered quite a nice brunch. We enjoyed their clam bake back on July 4th a lot and wanted to return. Who knew it would be so soon? [...]

Tuesdays with TT: Yerba Buena Perry

For Father’s Day this year, CT’s Dad decided he wanted some upscale Mexican food, so we ended up at Yerba Buena Perry in the West Village. I had heard of it and its sister restaurant in the East Village before, but have never been. The menu looked delicious, so I was pretty excited to try it. Some of us were pretty excited for the brunch deal they offer; $12 for one hour of unlimited cocktails. Although, they only offered a selection of about six different cocktails including sangria, mimosas, etc. CT and I both ended up getting a Pisco cocktail [...]

Saravanna Bhavan

BIG NEWS ON THE HOME FRONT: I asked CT to move in with me and she said YES! She may have been under the influence of alcohol at the time she made her decision. Not sure, hehe. On a recent Sunday, her Dad came into town with the station wagon to make the first of many trips from her place to mine. Luckily, her apartment is only five blocks from mine, which made the actually moving of boxes pretty easy. Since CT’s Dad was coming in early to help, we decided last minute to have Indian Brunch. This was decided [...]

Maharlika

It had been a while since our cooking class group of friends had met up, when Robi sent an email out suggesting another meetup. Last time was dim sum at Golden Unicorn, this time the suggestion was Filipino food at the new pop-up restaurant Maharlika. It can be found during brunch on the weekends at Cafe Leon, just a few doors down from Motorino. Pop-up restaurants are the latest trend here in NYC. Move over cupcakes, artisanal pizza, and food trucks. These temporary establishments allow chefs to get super creative with their menu. Since the startup costs are relatively small [...]
