SF Foodbuzz Food Bloggers Fest – Golden Gate Meat Company (breakfast on Saturday)

The morning after we chowed down at the welcome reception & street food fare, we met up in the Ferry Building in the morning for pastries and coffee.  Unfortunately, I’m not much for pastries/sweets, so when someone mentioned the Golden Gate Meat Company downstairs was serving breakfast sandwiches, I was totally down. Nichelle of Cupcakes Take the Cake also wanted a sandwich, so we walked up to the counter and ordered quickly.  We had a choice of ham or bacon… I was sad there was no sausage option.  Nichelle decided on ham, but after I ordered the bacon, she wished she’d [...]

SF Foodbuzz Food Bloggers Fest – Ella’s (breakfast on Friday)

For breakfast on Friday – the fest was scheduled to start on Friday night – I wanted something yummy.  My go-to place for breakfast when I’m in the Bay Area is The Country Way, but that’s in Fremont near San Jose and my day’s agenda did not include going that far for breakfast (I had a full day of shopping ahead of me! and eating, lots of eating).  So I harassed the concierge of Hotel Vitale until he stopped naming all the places the tourists hit (which I knew from Googling for SF breakfast/brunch spots) and told me in a [...]

DeLuca’s (Pittsburgh)

While researching breakfast places in Pittsburgh, there was a clear divide among the locals: Pamela’s or DeLuca’s.  Apparently there’s been somewhat of a feud between the two places for years, though I found enough online suggesting that Pamela’s was touristy and had suffered in quality for a while that I chose DeLuca’s.  Plus DeLuca’s was smack dab in the middle of the Strip District, where I wanted to spend our Saturday morning anyway, and that’s how we wound up there. Despite a line out the door, we were seated within 10 minutes of getting on line (the line ended at [...]

egg (Williamsburg)

StB and I recently took an excursion to Brooklyn – to Williamsburg, more specifically – to check out what the big foodie fuss about the area is.  One of the places that repeatedly crossed both our respective radars – and surprisingly, we have very few subscriptions that are the same (I subscribe to way more cooking blogs than she does) – was egg, for its delicious brunch offerings.  So off we went.  The menu… click to enlarge.  She opted for Eggs Rothko and I the Chorizo & Eggs because homemade chorizo, sign me up! I know she liked her dish [...]

Post-Meat Hiatus: First Meal

My first meal back eating meat.  What did I choose? A simple sausage, egg and cheese on a roll from my favorite breakfast place.  (The BF and I often stop there at the start of a road trip for our morning sustenance; I’m not sure how long he’s been going there but I’ve been going there for just under 6 years now.)  As you can see, I waited until I was on the plane and served juice alongside to consume it, so the cheese had melted and then congealed slightly by the time I ate it. Verdict?  While the sausage [...]
