As I’ve mentioned before, SpB occasionally calls out theme nights, and it was time for another burgers & fries night. HB had wanted to check out Five Guys last time, but they didn’t have any vegetarian options, so it was put off until now. She and I opted to split Five Guys Fries, thinking they were special… they were not. I mean, they were okay, but just fries. SpB had wisely opted for cajun fries, but happily shared with us when we were dismayed at our somewhat bland fries. These were tangy and spicy, though I did find myself alternating [...]
Vegas Gluttony: Carnival World Buffet at the Rio
Oops, I forgot to take a photo of the outside… but it’s pretty easy to find. If you take any of the FREE shuttles from Bally’s/Paris or Harrah’s to Rio (you don’t have to be staying at any of those hotels to take the free shuttle!), it drops you right in front of the entrance to the casino that leads straight to this buffet. And if you’re really nice… well, you can email me and I’ll email you a coupon for this buffet, $5 off per person in your party up to 4 people. (Yes, I’ll email you the coupon [...]

You may have heard by now that I’m basically going meatless (temporarily). So, as one of my last meals before doing so, I headed over to Burger Burger, which had been on my list since I first saw the awning go up probably over 2 years ago now, when I still lived so close I could look out my window and see the bright red awning. It’d returned to the forefront of my consciousness when DK posted about it over on Midtown Lunch. What caught my interest was, of course, the Thursday Special. HI BACON STUFFED ANGUS BURGER NOMNOMNOM. I swear, [...]

What I really wanted to post this week was a recipe attempt at … well, I’ve hinted at it before. But you see, this past weekend was designated as “trying to recover from the first week of full time working and part time schooling” so I wound up relaxing just a little bit more than I’d intended… But I did dig up these photos from a few weeks ago, and well, I like the photos, so I’m going to post them. Doesn’t that bowl look gorgeous? Okay, minus cilantro if you don’t like it, but still pretty damn good, right? [...]
Slow Cookin’ Up a Storm

You see that? You see my shiny new toy? A wonderful, absolutely delightful Christmas present from my brother and my mother. A Rival 6 quart (GINORMOUS) Crock Pot aka slow cooker. It’s ginormous and I’ve spent the past few weekends creating lovely aromas and dishes from the thing. Since it’s so huge, and I cook for one, I’ve been mostly making large batches and freezing leftovers. The very first thing I made was actually pulled pork… which is kind of why I got a slow cooker to begin with, after I saw how easily I could recreate one of my [...]
