This past Spring, CT’s parents finished putting in a patio in their backyard in New Jersey. This included a huge built-in grill, sink, and a portable tandoor oven. The best way to break all of this in is to have a big party of course. With everyone’s busy schedules, the party was scheduled for the end of July on what ended up being the hottest weekend of the year. Remember that Friday that was around 105 degrees not counting humidity? The party was the next day which luckily was a little bit cooler, but still way too muggy to be [...]

New to town, I had but a handful of places I really wanted to visit in Portland. Most of those involved beer, truth be told, so any suggestions for food prior to drinking were appreciated. So when my local friend, OMF, suggested an early lunch at Blueplate, I leapt at the chance to take the MAX all by myself across the river and meet up for some good eats. I later learned that Food Network had descended on Blueplate some years ago, but thankfully (for us) the tourist hype had died down a bit since then, and we secured a [...]

Hanging out with Ma in Florida means cooking in her condo kitchen and dusting off the grill for the cooking of cow, like any beach vacation ought to include. But hey, it’s also vacation — I’d like to relax sometimes, too, and let others prepare our dinner. I arrived at the airport Thursday evening, and Ma decided that instead of cooking, we could try a new Italian place that had only recently opened in the area. About a mile up Ocean Shore Boulevard from Ma’s condo lies Montovani, this little mom & pop Italian restaurant. It looks like pretty much [...]

I think I should start with a disclaimer. My mother, saint that she is, loves Paula Deen. Absolutely loves the woman, her shows, her sons, her cookbooks, everything. Ma’s butter intake likely would not surprise you, given this information. Last December, scrambling to figure out what my mother would want for Christmas — who needs more knick-knacks, anyway? — that she’d never think to do for herself, I realized, thanks to one Feisty Foodie, that Paula Deen has had a restaurant in Savannah, Georgia for over two decades. The Lady and Sons serves lunch and dinner six days a week [...]

As mentioned, I recently took a trip to Peru, visiting the Amazon area, Cusco, and Machu Picchu/Aguas Calientes… follow along as I show you everything I ate on my amazing trip! Our final meal in Peru, HB and I decided to wander close to the hotel and see what we could find. We tried to go to Pollos Broaster again since I’d LOVED it and had raved about it to her – and we were both very low on sols, with no real reason to exchange more money so late in the trip – but it was closed. We’re still not sure [...]
