Viet Royale – Falls Church, VA

Viet Royale – Falls Church, VA

During my trip to DC, I noticed on the Metro map that there was a stop called “Falls Church”. I don’t know much about the DC metro area, but I did know that Falls Church was home to a large Vietnamese population and boasted some really delicious pho and banh mi as I’ve heard… so I got really excited and suggested we drive there before visiting the National Air & Space Museum and then leaving for NYC. It all worked out in terms of proximity… I always start with an order of summer rolls, because I like these better than [...]

Good Stuff Eatery – DC

Good Stuff Eatery – DC

I headed down to DC over Easter weekend because I wanted to catch the cherry blossoms… but with a mild winter and an unseasonably warm end to winter, the blossoms were all gone by that time, ugh. I saw more blossoms in NYC than I did in DC… in any case, I asked my friend Aimee for suggestions where to eat. She mentioned Good Stuff Eatery whose owner, Spike Mendelsohn, I’d previously met. (I was feeling particularly lazy and uninclined to look up my own places to visit.)  When we arrived, I was pretty surprised to see how it was [...]

Mo C Mo C

Mo C Mo C

Last month, CT and I head down to Princeton, NJ for the day to welcome her Mom back from her latest sabbatical to India. Fortunately, this time around was only for a month and not longer. After spending the afternoon with her and CT’s Dad, we went for an early dinner before heading back to NYC. After hearing our options, we decided to get Japanese food at Mo C Mo C right in the heart of town. Unfortunately, the online menu does not have prices listed so I can’t tell you how much each dish cost. I can say that [...]

Tuesdays with TT: Bistro 18

Tuesdays with TT: Bistro 18

A couple weeks ago, we headed to South Jersey for a friend’s son’s first birthday party. After we had our fill of Elmo and Cookie Monster, we headed back up north to drop off my Dad’s car (who graciously let us borrow it.) Before heading back to NYC, my parents took us out to dinner to one of their favorite restaurants of the moment. Bistro 18 in Montclair, New Jersey was a small, cozy “New American” restaurant right in the heart of the hip town that Stephen Colbert calls home. After being seated, bread service included some eggplant caponata. I [...]

Waffle House

Waffle House

The day after Christmas found DLS on a day trip to Gettysburg.  After getting our fill of battlefields and history, we jumped back on the road to head home.  Yes, I’d made him go to Cracker Barrel – his first time! – on our way there, though I didn’t take photos.  On our way back, we just had to stop at Waffle House… because that’s how I roll Someone asked me last time about the tomatoes – so here’s a shot of the relevant portion of the menu.  DLS went with pork chops smothered in country gravy, Texas toast, and [...]
