Argentina: Day 5: Parilla El Quincho Del Tio Querido

For our very last dinner in Iguazu Falls, we wanted churrascaria.  Brazilian, as we know it back here in NYC, where they come around and keep feeding you meat and don’t stop… Yum.  (Yes, we decided one night off meat was enough.)  Though we were clearly in Argentina, we figured since we were at the border of Argentina & Brazil, we should be able to find a really authentic one… Unfortunately, through the language barrier arose a miscommunication or misunderstanding, and we were sent here.  A happy mistake… this was no churrascaria as we know it in NYC- where the [...]

Argentina: Day 5: Las Cataratas Hotel Snack Bar

On our last day in Iguazu Falls, we decided to try eating at one of the nearby hotels.  We’d heard that Las Cataratas actually had a good buffet, which wasn’t open when we went, so instead we decided to just eat at their snack bar… very good call, nearly as soon as we sat down, the skies opened up and it poured. Hey, it is the rainforest, right?  (As several people “reminded” me when I lamented the rain upon my return.) Typical, normal hotel snack bar fare, but I took pictures anyway. MD/PB ordered a sandwich whose components escaped me, [...]

Argentina: Day 4: "Please, no more meat" Dinner at Aqua

**if you look closely, you can see me in the reflection, holding up my camera By our 2nd night in Iguazu, my friends were getting a bit tired of red meat and craved salads, greens, anything but steak.  The brimming-with-useful-suggestions concierge slash owner of the hotel we stayed at – the RioTropic – strongly recommended Aqua, a seafood restaurant, and so off we went.  The place inside distinctly reminded us of a converted steakhouse with a country western theme- gleaming wood, wood floors, wood everywhere but not the dark wood we’re used to in NYC steakhouses – a rustic mix [...]

Argentina: Day 4, 5 & 6: Breakfast at the RioTropic

Our super quaint “hotel” in Iguazu Falls also included breakfast. Before I get into the actual items, the place was tiny – 10 rooms (I’d show you pictures, but those were on my friends’ cameras), but incredibly cheap. Our room allowed for probably 4 kids and 2 parents – we had only 4 girls – and it came out to $60 a night. No, not per person, total. There was a small pool with a few lounge chairs scattered about; necessary in the heat and humidity, we used it a few times actually, despite not being lounge type people (mostly [...]

Argentina: Day 3: Moonlit Dinner at the Falls (La Selva)

As soon as we landed in Iguazu Falls, we discovered that we’d picked a fantastic time to visit.  Once a month, during the week of the full moon, the park that houses the falls offers moonlit walks to the falls; for an extra few pesos, dinner is included.  I believe the total cost came out to $30 USD or thereabouts (around 90 pesos), and it sounded simply amazing- you get to the park after it’s closed, and are led on a 1.6 km “hike” to the Devil’s Throat, which is the largest falls that are part of Iguazu Falls.  I [...]
