McCormick & Schmick’s – Happy Hour

After a full day of wandering around and walking the city, Dessert Zombie and I were feeling a bit munchy – or at least I was, and he indulged when I realized we were near McCormick & Schmick’s. Since the first time Midtown Lunch posted about their ridiculous happy hour, I’ve wanted to go, but alas – have these words ever been spoken with such regret? – I haven’t worked in midtown since a short stint in 2003. But no matter – it was just after the happy hour started, I looked up the address, and we were off.

Our server was extremely pleasant, pointed out the happy hour specials to us, and was never inattentive despite my ordering a soda (he had a beer). We started with the calamari, which was certainly of the frozen calamari kind – with so many tentacles – but luckily, neither DZ nor I dislike tentacles (I find they have a different kind of chewiness to them, and are a nice mix from the slightly softer chew of the rings). Overall, these were sufficient – the portion on the small side, ringing in at $4.95, but a nice bite to start the meal.

I love wings, that’s no secret, so it was easy to order these and they were easy to eat. Nothing outstanding or horrible about them – $6 for the plate.

Okay. Here’s what you really should go for: the $3.95 cheeseburger and fries. Seriously, that above plate was $3.95 (plus tax, tip, and minimum drink order)… and it was a solidly decent burger. There’s even a pickle spear on that plate. It’s not the most amazing burger ever, but considering you can get out for about $10 total (with a soda), it’s an incredible deal for happy hour… on those nights when you’re concentrating more on drinking than on eating an amazing meal, yes please! The fries were decent as well. I’m not going to lie – I was super pleased with my choice, and DZ didn’t seem all that put off by the offerings either. We even discussed ordering more stuff, but I was pretty full by then.

I can definitely see going back for happy hour with friends – the prices are great for the specials, while the regular drinks can be a bit pricey. If I had to be in midtown – well, there are worse things in life.

Check out the happy hour special!

How big was that burger? Pub style big? Or more Shake Shack big?

    • It was pub size across, but thinner than pub size… though not as thin as Shake Shack’s. I think I read somewhere it’s a 1/2 lb but I don’t think it was huge because I ate it all without a problem. It’s bigger than I expected for $3.95, especially considering it comes with fries and therefore is quite filling as its own plate.

I’m glad we stopped in. Very nice place and inexpensive happy hour menu at McCormick’s.

The burger was closer to pub style but not too huge. The wings were average but I did enjoy the offerings. TENTACLES!!! munch, munch, munch.
