Cold weather calls for pho, I don’t know many people who would disagree. (Maybe people who never had pho before? Well, actually, the BF disagrees, but that’s an entirely different matter…) So when the weather got a lil chilly a short while ago (and little did we know it would soon get even colder!!!), the Spicy Ninja and I headed off to check out this place his friend recommended – Pho Grand, on, well, Grand Street.
We were seated immediately, as the place wasn’t very busy, and decided to start off with an order of summer rolls, to split. I love summer rolls – the spring rolls are deep-fried and too greasy for my taste (plus they always give you like 4-8 and that’s way too many with a bowl of pho…).
Shot of the innards. The shrimp seem a bit small, but that’s okay, I actually like these for the noodles, the crunchiness, and the peanut sauce…
True to his name, this is what the Spicy Ninja dished out for himself: jalapenos, Sriracha, chili oil, and hoisin sauce. I stayed far away from all of that.
Spicy Ninja’s order, which I forget, but I know for sure he really liked the pho here (he told me so himself).
My bowl of pho, which was the one that has everything (eye of round, omosa, brisket, etc.).
Noodle shot. Honestly, this place was better than the other places I’ve been to in Chinatown, though still doesn’t surpass my favorite place! The broth here was deeply flavored, and clearly had been at work for hours upon hours (like good pho broth should be), and everything came together nicely. I really enjoyed my bowl of pho and anticipate going back – Pho Grand may just replace my standby pho restaurants in Chinatown since nothing before this really stood out in terms of pho.
Now, to try their bun… 😉
Yvo says: Definitely worth checking out if you like pho… pretty good stuff. I’ll have to go back a few more times just to make sure it’s consistent 😉
