Close followers of this blog will recognize that HB is one of my closest friends – and for good reason. We both like to eat and we both occasionally indulge in drink-fests, drunk days, day long events of drinking until one of us gives up. (Usually not me.) One such occasion recently went down when we’d both planned to be out of town, but our trip fell through at the last minute, so we both decided to get a lil toasty one Sunday. We started at Intermezzo, where she ordered a raspberry bellini she liked, and I received a mango bellini that needed more mango.
Please note – usually we try to start at places that have good brunch w/drink specials, like Philip Marie where one price gets you unlimited drinks plus a brunch entree. This time, we wound up at a place that I thought it was included, but instead it was a $15 surcharge for unlimited drinks, which was a bit annoying considering HB only had one bellini and I only had two. Boo. Not a good deal, in other words, unless you’re a total lush. Which I can be, but wasn’t that morning.
HB ordered simple scrambled eggs with potatoes. We both liked our potatoes a lot, perfectly cooked and well-seasoned.
What did you think I’d order? Of course, smoked salmon benedict. It was good, but not wonderful; a little more lemon or flavor to the Hollandaise would have been nice, though at least they weren’t trying to kill me with an OD of Hollandaise! Otherwise, everything was sufficiently tasty and I definitely finished everything (though that may have been an attempt to prevent myself from getting too drunk, too).
So, not such a great deal, but standard brunch fare, although the location makes for great eye candy that has no interest in you (or at least me, since I’m a girl), and we lucked out by sitting in the open air by the door… if you are unlucky enough to sit inside, they BLAST music such that it is impossible to hear your companion. We had trouble as it was, and that’s not really what I want in a brunch place. I felt like we were in a club except eating. And in broad daylight. Very awkward.
Yvo says: I liked my food sufficiently, but the price being what it is (which isn’t to say it’s EXPENSIVE, just not cheap), the atmosphere not being one I appreciate, and everything just adds up to the fact that I probably won’t be back. It wasn’t an offensive place, just not my cup of tea. I’ll pass.
if that’s your scene — but it isn’t mine

I would love to know what HB paid for her dish. That is a lot of egg/little potato although the potato looks good – the eggs? nah.
And I am your new internet best friend – I will get "drunk" online with you anytime 😉 Unless you GET TO DC so I can get you drunk here. LOL

i love brunch for the atmosphere because there's never anything for me from the brunch menu (I don't eat eggs) and most restaurants don't offer the lunch menu on the weekends.
