After dim sum at Ocean Jewel, we all trooped across the street to Flushing Mall to check out its fabled food court. Apparently, all four of us frequent the same food sites, as we all remembered recent posts from Serious Eats – specifically, this post detailing a shaved ice topped with mango ice cream… We had a little trouble with the menu – I couldn’t believe it would only be $3 and change – but whipping out my trusty Blackberry, a quick Google search later, and we were golden. The money shot… yes, please, more mango… more ice cream… heck, [...]

A week after I came back from San Francisco, I found myself in Flushing for dim sum. Ahhh, dim sum. I grew up going to dim sum nearly every weekend, and took it very much for granted. Dim sum is a social affair (sort of; for my family, who didn’t really go to dim sum socially the way others do, expecting, perhaps even wanting to run into others that you knew there, it was just about the eating, and that’s okay with me, I always find it a bit awkward to bump into people when I’m eating, and it happens [...]

I actually came here with LTS a few days before I departed for San Francisco, but haven’t had the opportunity to post about it yet. Since it’s been so long, and I didn’t take notes, I’m just going to share the pictures and the overall feeling with which I came away from the place. On a Tuesday night, the place was fairly empty, which worked out in our favor. I can imagine the place being quite a bit louder if there ere more people around, so I was happy that the large place had just a few tables of people scattered [...]

It was love at first bite. With the next bite, I knew life would never be the same. I recently took a class at Murray’s Cheese (actually, I took two classes there now, and I swear, I will post about them, but I’m trying to go mostly in order here), and discovered this somewhat local cheese – Goot Essa Mountain Valley Sharp Cheddar. Our class explored beverage pairings with the cheeses, and this one was paired with hard cider. I wasn’t necessarily a fan of that pairing, but I hear cheese & apples go well together, and, I don’t know, [...]

Though she makes fun of me constantly for having a social calendar that is booked up months in advance, RotaryGirl sent me a meeting request for October – the week I returned from San Francisco – back in late August, something I can’t help but make fun of her for. She said, “What do you want to eat?” Everyone around me had been asking me for weeks the same question: DT asked me; Robyn asked me; LTS asked me; Rochelle asked me… So really, all I had to do was pull out the same list I’d been rattling off to people [...]
