I headed over to “fresco on the go” after reading on Eater there’d be free food. I NEVER get the free food!, I thought to myself, but figured that whatever, worth walking by since it’s close to my work place. Well, 1:06 pm and they were turning people away from the line, telling us that the free food had “ended” and this was the end of the line, end of the food. The line stopped just short at the border between Soup Man and Starbucks.
Whatever. Kind of annoying, but not the end of the world. At least I didn’t stand there waiting, only to be turned away, I guess……. no sign of what or how much free food was being given away though. I thought it was just samples? Anyone got a report or better yet, pictures?
(Don’t worry, I still ate lunch. In fact, I went down to sit by the water as I normally do, and sat facing the Ikea Water Taxi… TONS of people getting on and off, I didn’t see any shopping bags though.)
Speaking of my office neighborhood, the Financial District, we seem to be on an upswing in terms of food, what with Burger Shoppe opening down here, Adrienne’s (not new, but still fantastic), Eater covering The Diner DOH’ing (umm… seriously? Who cares about that place?), TONY including Alfanoose and Sam’s Falafel in their Street Cart Showdown, and… uh, well, take your pick of places I’ve talked about in the Financial District. We even have our own “cute” little nickname- FiDi- now. (My question is, how do you pronounce that – is it “Fiddy” like 50c [the rapper]? Is it fai-dee, like how you might say “faster/hurry” in Cantonese? Or is it Fi-Dih, like how the first syllable of each word for which it is the nickname is pronounced…? *shrug* I like fiddy, but I’m sure that would confuse people:
“Where do you work?”
“Oh, down in the FIDDY…”
Well, here’s hoping that this sudden upswing in the FiDi’s media coverage means an upswing in the quality of food available to us.
… or you could always start bringing your lunch.
Last but not least, I hope you all have tickets already to the 3rd Annual Great American Hot Dog Cook-Off!!! I believe they are all sold out of tickets, boo…. but they were only $15 which included all the dogs you could eat and all the beer you could drink! what a deal! Unfortunately, I hesitated and ultimately lost out… but to all those who have tickets, PLEASE TAKE PICTURES AND LET US KNOW HOW IT WAS!!! One of my favorite food bloggers, Cathy of Not Eating Out in NY, is co-hosting, and that means it’s sure to be fun and well-planned.
I hope you all have a fantastic weekend- HAPPY EATING to you all!!!
