I have been remiss with my food blogging duties. Why? Well, as I mentioned, I’ve moved back to Queens, and have just been too tired to cook or eat or even go to new restaurants. Instead, I’ve put what little food-energy I can muster up into… making bento.
With huge inspiration from both Cooking Cute and Lunch in a Box, I started packing my own lunch as a means to both save money and brighten my otherwise sad days (ok, I’m struggling with some depression, too). I have to say, I’m pleased with the results. Since I mostly didn’t really make what’s inside, just assembled stuff, I’m just going to show you pictures and descriptions of what went into them… Enjoy!
My first attempt at bento
Top container: homemade pickles, green grapes; pita chips; Asian style potato salad
Bottom container: homemade kalbi; taztziki sauce for the chips; watermelon
(This one is a spectacular failure. Meat doesn’t taste that good cold- very greasy- and it was hard to eat since it wasn’t cut up.)
My second, and best yet, attempt at bento:
Left container: edamame, Asian style potato salad, canteloupe and two gyoza with a piggie filled with gyoza sauce
Right container: homemade onigiri (two with salmon, one with eel), inari sushi, and pickled daikon/radish
(This was my first experience eating – and making – onigiri, and it was delicious!)
Third:
Top left container of salsa; underneath, tortillas cut up, and two blocks of Laughing Cow cheese bites to keep the tortillas from moving
Right container: black beans, sour cream, cheese, steak, peppers & onions
Mini fajitas!
Fourth time:
Left container: the last of the Asian style potato salad; edamame; watermelon
Right container: gyoza, gyoza sauce in a piggie bottle, and a wedge of Laughing Cow garlic & herb cheese (which I wound up eating for breakfast with a slice of toast)
Fifth time:
Left side – Romaine lettuce with grape tomatoes (dressing forgotten, so I got some from the cafeteria)
Right side – Caesar chicken wrap with fresh mozzarella, basil; green grapes
Snack bento! (I had lunch plans that day already)
Almond Crush Pocky; grape tomatoes; green grapes, champagne crackers and a wedge of Laughing Cow garlic & herb cheese
Today’s weak attempt:
Mini-Vitasoy; Crunch dark stick; beef chow mein with red vinegar in the little bottle; watermelon
That’s what I’ve been eating lately. Hopefully, I’ll return to cooking soon enough. Until then… happy eating, or happy bento-ing as the case may be!!!

Scottish Trust Deeds says
"I'm in debt. How do I get out of it?" It's a common question these days, and a problem that's made no easier by today's economic troubles. But whatever debts an individual is facing, they're likely to have at least one debt solution available to them. Scottish Trust Deeds is similar to an IVA, but only available to residents of Scotland. In most cases, a Trust Deed will last for three years.
