Sips South of the Border: Food & Wine, Ixtapa Zihuatanejo

March 2, 2012 by Feisty Foodie 4 Comments

I was recently invited to Sips South of the Border, an event promoting awareness of Mexican wines – it isn’t just tequila there! – and some tequilas beyond what we normally think when we think tequila.  As our host informed us – tequila isn’t just for college kids and drunk Greeks (fraternities and sororities, not actual Greeks, you know they have ouzo).

On display for us all to look at: bottles of the wine and some mezcal, tequilas.

As you can see, they kept us well-lubricated, so I’m not really going to be much help with descriptions.  Wine is a personal taste sort of thing anyway: some I liked, some I didn’t.  Some you might like, some you might not.  The fun part though is the three glasses on the bottom.  One is a shot of mezcal, one is of tequila, and the third is a spiced tomato juice concoction.  I wish I knew what went into it exactly, because I’m never one to order a Bloody Mary, but that was pretty tasty on its own… and even BETTER with my shot of mezcal thrown into it.  (The tequila was too much for me to take.)  SO GOOD.  I wanted more!

I love super meta photos like this.

And this is what she was taking a photo of: our new DO NOT DISTURB signs!  Ha, imagine bringing that to a hotel to use.  Hilarious!

Of course, it wasn’t all fun & games.  Okay, it was, but there was a point: aside from promoting Mexican wines and liquors, we learned about the upcoming Food & Wine Festival in Ixtapa Zihuatanejo (yes, try pronouncing that while you’re drunk) from March 22 – March 24.  I would love to be able to go – it sounds like a ton of fun!  If you can, though, you should totally go.

Thank you to the Mexico Tourism Board for hosting this lovely event.  I learned a lot about Mexican wines and liquors that I wouldn’t have otherwise!

I attended this event courtesy of the Mexico Tourism Board, and received no monetary compensation to post about this event (though I did get some nifty mini bottles of liquor!).  I was not obligated to post about it positively or negatively, and do so freely.

Oh! We had food beforehand, but I didn’t realize that was the dinner portion, so to speak, so the drinking got out of hand a little too quickly, haha.
