Kanoyama

June 26, 2009 by Feisty Foodie 2 Comments

For a very special surprise dinner with StB, we headed over to Kanoyama.  Last meal… goodbyes… we managed not to become teary, but I think it was close.

I started off with a salad, which, despite its interesting appearance, was still fairly standard.

HB ordered soem sashimi.  I didn’t hear any complaints, so I assume she found it tasty (sorry for the blur!).

BB ordered a few rolls, which all came topped with avocado and looked really good.  I think she also enjoyed her meal.

StB and I both ordered the sashimi platter.  Look at all that!  Some unique offerings, to be sure.

I believe this was firefly baby octopus, or something with a name like that.  Without thinking, I popped one into my mouth, ate it, and then mused aloud, “It tastes like it’s stuffed with liver pate” (the good kind) and StB reminded me that I was eating its brain.  Which gave me pause but hell it was delicious so I ate the other one happily as well.

Arctic char, which was creamy, smooth, and delicious.  I liked this a lot.

I’m not entirely sure what these were… but I enjoyed it throughly!

Again, same, because we were busy talking away after the waiter explained each one to us, so I kind of forgot.  Sorry!

We ended the night with green tea ice cream, farewells, and the three remaining headed off to have wine to drink our sorrows away.

Farewell, StB!  I know our paths will cross again, but for now, I send my love and best wishes…

Yvo says: I found this place to be really quite lovely and delicious.  I will definitely be back for more unique sashimi offerings and yummy food – I was most amused by the realization that we all walk by this place all the time, yet none of us ever went until StB mentioned it.  Good stuff… and close to my stomping grounds.  Will definitely be back.
recommended; very fresh sashimi

Kanoyama is one of my favorite sushi spots! It looks so unassuming on the outside but it's always packed because the fish is so fresh. They have awesome specials too and Hitachino ale. Bruni recommended it awhile back which may have given it some buzz.

I really like this place as well. I thought the place was unpretentious and the food was fresh and delicious. There are so many sushi places right around here but I always end up going to Kanoyama anyway.
