Meatless Week 5 Recap!

April 6, 2009 by Feisty Foodie 1 Comment

We’re coming down the stretch.  I’ll be honest.  Again, I’m writing this on Friday since my week technically ends today (it starts on Saturday), and this weekend is going to be incredibly hard.  My darling friend HB actually said to me “Well you thought it was 5 weeks anyway so why not just end it?” and I really want to agree with her.

You see, there are two things in this world that I am very passionate about (well, some other things, too, but we’re sticking to these two for the blog, k?) and that’s food… and baseball.  I’ll be at Citi Field all this weekend, and the new food offerings are killing me that I can’t try most of them just yet.  I mean, I have tickets to many, many games throughout the regular season, so I’m sure I’ll be eating them later, except my tickets THIS weekend include access to the Acela Club, which my regular season tickets DO NOT.  So I’m kind of angry that I won’t be able to try mac & cheese (made with pancetta)… since I love mac & cheese in general, and to not be able to try it because of this challenge! my one and only chance this season! is really, really upsetting me.  The bratty side of me is like “But I DID it for 5 weeks…! and this is a SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCE WTF” and then the other side of me is like “OMG are you retarded?  You said February 28 through April 9, so suck it up! ASS!”

Anyway, it’s 6 more days, 6 more days (by the time this post goes up, it will be 3 more days).

Saturday, 3/28/09 – Meatless Day 29

lunch: 3 egg omelette with broccoli & cheese
dinner: tortilla chips, guacamole, cookie, hummus, cheese, wine, pita

One of my close friends had a housewarming party, thus the strange dinner.  It was painful watching everyone chowing down on his homemade sliders and wings – I’ve never actually eaten his cooking before, so I was kind of >:T about the whole thing.  I did have his girlfriend’s homemade guacamole and hummus, though, and both were delicious.  Just! the wings! and the burgers! and then to have everyone look at me like I’m crazy for not eating meat!  It’s getting harder to explain the point of this challenge with any sort of conviction in my voice.

Sunday, 3/29/09 – Meatless Day 30

lunch: mini broccoli/cheddar quiches; edamame
dinner: rice, snowpeas, wintermelon, broccoli, green beans, random veggies, sweetened mayo with lettuce (yes, that’s in the right order, it was more mayo than lettuce, which I mixed with the rice); slice of chestnut cake

So FeistyMom’s birthday was the 25th, but I had my midterm that night.  We went out for dinner on Sunday night, to our favorite Cantonese joint, and… well… everything was ordered accordingly.  There was not one only-veggie dish, which is odd even for my family.  There’s usually at least one dish that is all vegetables.  Oh well, I wound up picking out the vegetables from a lot of the dishes and eating that with my rice, which is why it’s kind of random and weird.  Really sad moment of the night?  Realizing I couldn’t have any of the shark’s fin soup.  Sadface.  But I was very full at the end of the night, anyway.

Monday, 3/30/09 – Meatless Day 31

breakfast: Chex Mix.
lunch: huge falafel sandwich from Sam’s Falafel
dinner: bento #320, chips & dip

I know.  But… no, there’s nothing I can say.  Crunchy chips are my downfall.

Tuesday, 3/31/09 – Meatless Day 32

breakfast: two slices whole grain toast with cream cheese
lunch: penne alla vodka from a truck (review to come… and I asked, there was no meat)
dinner: bento #321 … then, much later, a 6″ veggie delight sandwich (all veggies, fat free honey mustard, provolone) from Subway

I had a coupon that was expiring.

Wednesday, 4/1/09 – Meatless Day 33

breakfast: 6″ veggie delight sandwich (the other half)
lunch: pretzels (and a 2.49m run)
dinner: everything bagel with egg salad; a Fuji apple

Thursday, 4/2/09 – Meatless Day 34

breakfast: 6″ “veggie delight” sandwich
lunch: bento #322… sort of… (click through to see why only “sort of”), dipsy doodles, and 1 grandma slice
dinner: instant noodles with crappy veggie dumplings (Wei Chuan brand, don’t buy those, they suck hard)

Umm… yeah.  I had turkey in my mouth.  I spit it all out though, and I picked it out of the sandwich, but I was pretty angry about the whole thing.  (The full story is explained in the bento post.)  Seriously?  Not cool.

Friday, 4/3/09 – Meatless Day 35

breakfast: veggie cream cheese on an everything bagel
lunch: green tea waffle (and a run!)
dinner: Greek salad (lettuces, olives, stuffed grape leaves, tomatoes, feta cheese, dressing); spinach & artichoke dip with chips

So, it’s been a challenging week, and part of me really wants to say f* it, and just scarf down that mac&cheese tomorrow.  But I won’t, because I am many things, and one of those things is really, really competitive.  And I won’t let this beat me, I just won’t.

6 more days (3 more days) 6 more days (3 more days)…

Happy eating!

But wait… why am I going meatless?

I just wanted to come by and say, good on you, i’m proud of you, and you’re awesome. i’m so amazed that you’ve kept it up your challenge to yourself.

that’s not saying i didn’t think you could do it. more like thinking about the fact i know i don’t have the willpower for something like that. kudos to you!
