Banc Cafe

December 29, 2008 by Feisty Foodie 1 Comment

Another Birthday Bunch brunch… another for HB.  ANM said “We’re getting old; that’s why we do brunch now…”  I can’t agree more… hahaha.

I’d made a reservation for about 10 people, 11:30 am, but of course, also per usual, we had our latecomers.  Starving by the time everyone was assembled, we quickly ordered and received our food fairly quickly – the restaurant had been empty when we arrived, but began to fill up around noon (Saturday brunch is like an insider’s secret to getting a table for brunch…).

HB & her boyfriend both ordered what I believe was called the California omelet.  I know they were both disappointed with the amount of avocado – there was hardly any – but otherwise thought it was an alright dish.

Dr. PB ordered an omelet that boasted jalapeno peppers, but once she bit into a huge one, and her mouth lit on fire for a few minutes, she was kind of over having peppers in the omelet.  Otherwise, she liked it enough but wasn’t WOW’ed by it.

Per usual, BF wanted waffles or French toast… but I politely reminded him that he’d been eating waffles all week, so why not mix it up?  So he got the French toast, which he said was good – he cleaned his plate, anyway – but left the fruit for me to nibble on.

As for me?  Of course the Nova Benedict, which was smoked salmon, traditional Benedict-style.  I am not a big fan of when they “cook” the smoked salmon further – I prefer it just laid down, with the poached eggs atop it and Hollandaise sauce just dripping down – but this was still pretty tasty.  The toasted English Muffins held up against the sauce and heat, without getting soggy, and the sauce was pretty good, though a little more would have been nice.  Perhaps a little more lemony as well.  I finished my plate though, it was yummy.

(We had more eaters but I generally take only the side of the table that I am sitting on, to keep things easy for everyone else.)

Yvo says: Everyone got assorted beverages – mostly teas and coffees, a few mimosas – and with treating the birthday girl, it came out to only $24 a person, which is very reasonable.  Everyone had a good time, it was fun and the staff didn’t pressure us even though we occupied the table from 11:20ish to, I believe, 2 pm or so.  We left them a nice tip (I think, I didn’t do the bill, but I don’t see why we wouldn’t have), and I would definitely go back for brunch again.  Nice & low key, although a bit further from the train than I’d like.  Thanks go to StB for the recommendation!!!
