Friday Afternoon Fun: Bizarre Foods (TV Show)

October 17, 2008 by Feisty Foodie 12 Comments

(trailer for upcoming show on October 21, 2008)

Do any of you guys watch this show? My friend Cookie and I were talking recently and it turns out she loves this show. She said that what Andrew Zimmern eats is ridiculous, and that he’s really funny while he’s doing it, too. I can’t imagine eating half the stuff he eats, and I think I’m pretty darn adventurous. I can’t imagine how she watches this either – she’s a vegetarian!!! – but there it is, she DVRs the show every week.

Seriously, if you guys watch this show or are at all interested in my holding a contest with DVDs and autographed publicity stills of Andrew, leave a comment. The PR for the show contacted me about this, but if no one wants to win the stuff, it seems silly to hold the contest (sorry, PR people! You know I heart you, but I don’t want to waste your time).

Bonus: if I do hold the contest, they’ll be sending me edible crickets. Remember my Omnivore’s 100? I put whole insects as one of two things I won’t eat (the other being a Raw Scotch Bonnet Pepper, since I’m positive that will kill me). If they are sent to me, not only will I eat them, I WILL POST ABOUT THEM, with photographs of the whole thing (including a rare shot of my face – EATING A CRICKET).

So you see now why this is important to me? And why it’s really a Friday Afternoon Fun? *shudder* I half-hope you guys keep your mouths shut. I half-hope you don’t, because I’m curious, and when pressed, I tend to do these silly things that I don’t really want to but won’t hurt me so why not.

Ummm, anyway…

LOL! What a giveaway that would be. Remdinded of a program we held a few years ago at the library. A guy who owns a company that sells crickets and other creepy crawlies presented. He gave all the kids who wanted one a choco-covered cricket. I was told by the kids (who were much more adventurous than I am) that it tasted like a Nestle crunch, but chewier. They all receive “I Ate a Bug Club” buttons. LOL!

I LOVE that show! Basically my entire DVR is full of Bizarre Foods and No Reservations. I really enjoy being able to see all the interesting things he tries and all the fun places he goes. Someone has to show us what passes as normal outside of our own little worlds.

New to the site- enjoying the read. Definitely hold a little contest. Hopefully he signed the stills with one of the beating hearts he plucked out of a turtle or fish. It would be framed with the quickness. That wasn’t intended to be gross.
