Cooking for DLS

One of the (many) ways I show people that I care is cooking for them. I’ve had a few chances to thank DLS for being such a wonderful friend by cooking for him, and thought I’d share some of what I’ve made so far. After a day of apartment viewing, Shake Shack eating, and just general wandering around, being inside Eataly gave me the bright idea of making dinner to eat while watching the Pro Bowl. (Yes, that’s how long ago this was.) Because I was going to have to use his kitchen, I chose to use some shortcuts instead [...]

The Kati Roll Company

I have a fondness for quick, inexpensive meals, and yeah, I’m a fan of Indian, especially when it fits that profile. So, if a restaurant were to combine, say, their kati rolls with some sort of deal that combines alcohol with the kati rolls… that would be a good thing, right? The Kati Roll Company invited a few bloggers in for the first Happy Hour, enticing us with many varieties of kati rolls — everything from basic chicken through one of their newest, an Angelo Sosa creation called the Shrimp Masala roll, with several vegetarian varieties in-between. As all the [...]

Saravanna Bhavan

BIG NEWS ON THE HOME FRONT: I asked CT to move in with me and she said YES! She may have been under the influence of alcohol at the time she made her decision. Not sure, hehe. On a recent Sunday, her Dad came into town with the station wagon to make the first of many trips from her place to mine. Luckily, her apartment is only five blocks from mine, which made the actually moving of boxes pretty easy. Since CT’s Dad was coming in early to help, we decided last minute to have Indian Brunch. This was decided [...]

So, you guys all remember my Meat Hiatus?  The weekly recaps of what I ate during my meatless time?  (Week 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6?)  And then, at the end of it all, I wrote up a list of things that I’d learned from giving up meat temporarily.  That post went up and I took off for Vegas for the weekend. Imagine my surprise when I came back to an explosion of comments on that post… and the discovery that Grub Street wrote about my list (my second-ever appearance in Grub Street, and it’s tagged ‘flatulence’ – yes, I [...]

Things I Learned From My Meat Hiatus

What, you thought I would really just let it end like that?! I learned a lot about vegetarianism/pescetarianism and about myself during this 41 day/almost 6 week challenge.  I mean, really, a LOT. Vegetarian diets are very gassy. It isn’t impossible to eat out (as a vegetarian), but it is a big hassle unless you’re OK being “that girl” who has to ask a million and two questions about every dish that you maybe could eat… this will make you appreciate being a non-allergic/non-restricted person if you go back to eating meat.  Also, even though it isn’t impossible to eat [...]
