Thursdays with TT: Iron Sushi

CT really wanted to see Inception. She got denied before when her friends from Boston were in town, so we decided to go on a Wednesday night because who goes to the movies then? We got to the theater about 30 mins early, so getting seats was a non-issue since there were only 3 other people there. It filled up a bit, but still quiet as expected for a weekday night. It was a good movie that was super intense. Anytime you deal with anything involving dreams, it can get pretty confusing and a little [...]

Tuesdays with TT: Jubilee

It has been a couple weeks since Aunt B welcome a new member into the family, so it was time my parents came into the city to meet her.
Say Hello to Scout.

What would a trip into the city for the parents without a meal? I decided we would go to one of Aunt B’s favorite restaurants, Jubilee. The reason why it is her favorite is that their speciality is mussels. She has been coming here for years and it is always consistently good. I took her a couple months back as a Christmas present and had [...]

Thursdays with TT: Robataya

One of the most interesting places that has come up on Blackboard Eats, is Robataya. It is a Japanese restaurant in the East Village that specializes in Robatayaki. This is where customers sit around an open hearth on which chefs grill seafood and vegetables. The fresh ingredients are displayed for customers to point at whenever they want to order.

Upon entering, you see the huge counter area where about 20 people sit around all of the ingredients and in the center, two chefs with grills. The back of the restaurant has regular tables, but sitting there defeats the [...]

Tuesdays with TT: Crayfish Festival at Aquavit

Last week, CT was on a stay-cation.  I am a big fan of the stay-cation, especially when you live in NYC.  There is so much to do and see, that it is nice not having to worry about going to work. While investigating things to do during her time off, she came across a post about a crayfish festival going on at Aquavit.  It was $28 for a half pound of peel and eat crayfish and a buffet of various crayfish dishes along with some traditional Scandinavian dishes.  Yes, you read that right, $28 for all you can eat [...]

My second Yankee game of the year and the first with CT. She was supposed to go with me a couple weeks ago, but got sick. She was convinced that she was cursed from going to a game at the new stadium, since she also tried to go last year. If we were both able to leave early enough, I wanted to check out the “secret cheap bar” near the stadium that I haven’t been to in a while. A couple years ago my buddy took me here because they have 3 beers for $10. [...]
