When you walk by Luke’s Lobster, what do you do but stop and have a lobster roll? After all the hype and positive press lately, I had to have one. TC and I opted to split one, because we were on our way to get burgers at Brindle Room (review of our experience to come). This is the lobster roll before they cut it in half for us. Funny story: as I picked up my half of the lobster roll, a teeny tiny fruit fly flew into it. I looked at it and debated picking it out, but realized I’d [...]

This post has been a long time coming, and I don’t know why I’ve put it off for so long. Whoops! A while back, I decided to run into the city and try this truck I’ve been seeing all over my friends’ Facebook feeds lately: Big D’s Grub Truck. It happened to be parked near my friend’s office in midtown, so he joined me for lunch – and even better, this was during the week that they had a promotion for $1 off a taco platter or a sandwich if you said “CBS New York” to them. Fun. (Also: [...]

My brother introduced my mother to halal street meat a while back, somewhere along the way. He works near the Famous Halal Guys at 53rd and 6th, and took to bringing home a platter for my mother every once in a while after work… so when her birthday came up recently, she requested this for dinner. Well… okay. I admit that I thought I liked street meat until I attended Street Meat Palooza 3, where I overwhelmed my palate with so many different spices and types of street meat, I haven’t eaten street meat since then. I was a little [...]

I recently flew to San Francisco – one of my very favorite domestic cities - to attend the 2nd Annual Foodbuzz Fest (here’s last year’s write-up). Follow along for the next two weeks as I recap my weekend trip! After I’d landed around 11am, Marc of No Recipes and I tried to connect via Twitter and text messaging to meet up for lunch. Unfortunately, we wound up crossing wires somewhere, and instead I waited for Blondie of Blondie & Brownie, my roomie for the weekend, who quickly suggested hitting up Off the Grid, which was parked behind City Hall that day. [...]
NYC Cravings v. Wah Mei Fast Food

I’ve mentioned both Wah Mei and NYC Cravings before, but I had to go back and do a full comparison. Pork chop over rice with one tea egg, pork sauce, and veggies, from Wah Mei – $4.90 Chicken leg over rice with one tea egg, pork sauce, and veggies, also from Wah Mei - $4.90 (it’s normally one big chicken leg, but as this one was on the small side, they threw in that little wing piece – no, I didn’t ask for it, they did it on their own) Porken (one pork chop, one chicken leg) with one tea egg [...]
