There’s something to be said for giving any drink the benefit of the doubt. If you offer me something (and I trust you aren’t trying to poison me), I try not to look gift horses in the mouth. Thomas Kemper Purely Natural Sodas

After my recent post where I briefly mentioned Thomas Kemper, Thomas Kemper emailed me to ask if I’d like to try some of their “Purely Natural” line (which I mentioned wanting to try the Blood Orange variety in that same post).  Of course, I haven’t seen Thomas Kemper in New York, so I agreed, and they kindly sent me this mixed pack of 6: two blood orange, two root beer, one black cherry and one spiced ginger ale.  Unfortunately, I noticed that despite being its “purely natural” line, many of the flavors tasted a bit, well, artificial.  I’m not sure [...]

It’s press-related week – dedicated to a couple of press events or products that I’ve received for review, etc… I know how you all love reading about these I recently attended an event showcasing Austrian products.  I was most interested in the elderflower syrup and the pink grapefruit marmalade, so the people who organized the event kindly sent me over some to try.  As you may have realized, since Chez Panisse, I’ve been a little obsessed with elderflower soda.  So I was especially excited to try the syrup – and promptly purchased plain seltzer to make my own soda.  Elderflower [...]

UnFancy Food Show 2010

This past Sunday I was dispatched, on short notice, to attend the UnFancy Food Show, a celebration of Brooklyn’s food scene. It moved this year to the Bell House, a spacious venue near the Gowanus Canal. On this blisteringly hot day, dozens of vendors were set up inside and a few more, under tents, set up shop on the sidewalk in front.
