Grapico

During my trip to Raleigh, I aimed to hit southern specialties that I’d not yet had.  Before this, I’d never traveled farther south along the East Coast than Maryland and DC, which isn’t very south at all, and I was eager to sample all the things that come with the south that aren’t available in the north.  Brilliantly, when my friend realized this, he shoved this at me.  Though it isn’t widely available in the south – this was shipped from good ol’ Alabama – Grapico is a sugary, high calorie grape soda.  210 calories for a regular sized can [...]

Junior’s Cheesecake

I’m a lucky, lucky girl… via food blogging, I’ve made so many lovely friends.  I recently battled a case of depression (and no, it’s never over completely), and without the support of those around me, I wouldn’t be able to sit here with a goofy smile on my face like I am right now (mostly from listening to a goofy song); instead, I’d probably still be on the couch, or in bed, just miserable and unhappy.  But I’m not – I’m almost through to the other side (I can admit that there are some days that I start to backslide, [...]

Jarritos Mexican Cola

The Feisty Foodie and Jarritos have a little bit of history. Jarritos, as you might know from Yvo’s post late last year, produces a rainbow of flavors — my favorite is the Lime (Limón), followed by Tamarindo, since, well, who does those? — and recently they were kind enough to send along a few bottles of the new Mexican Cola flavor. With this new addition, there are now 11 varieties in the Jarritos lineup, of all colors and flavors. Jarritos, based in Mexico, has been making sodas for over sixty years, and, well, the marketing arm is strong. If you [...]

Bubby’s Pie Company

I’m on a search for the best fried chicken in the city.  I’ve talked about fried chicken so many times here, and noted that I’ve yet to find truly amazing fried chicken.  I’ve gone on a Fat Chick Fried Chicken Feast, and things still came up short.  I’ve been to the lauded Hill Country Chicken but it just doesn’t impress me… In any case, I decided to revisit a place where I’d thought the food was OK, but a friend had mentioned the fried chicken being good, when I found out they stay open 24 hours (except on Mondays, when [...]

Jarritos + a Contest

I was recently sent a large box of Jarritos sodas to sample.  I was surprised to learn that Jarritos, a brand of soft drink I’ve seen at every taco truck I’ve gone to – both in California and in New York – is a line of drinks with all natural sugar, and a lot of them are also all natural flavoring as well.  Working my way through the box of all the different flavors was a lot of fun, and I definitely came away with some favorites.  I really liked strawberry, and the citrus flavors were pretty good as well.  [...]
