dell’anima

I celebrate every occasion with food (and some non-occasions, clearly), so the 2012 FBM Cookie Swap was no exception.  This year, it was up to Hungry, KC and myself to do it up big and show what’s up when it came to cookies… but before that, we had to eat, of course.  A quick consultation and Hungry suggested dell’anima, and KC and I agreed immediately.  Apologies in advance for the blurry photos – I didn’t drink, so I’m not sure what caused the shake… excitement, perhaps?  Our appetizers arrived quickly, ‘bruschette’ were really a basket of crostini served with the [...]

Rubirosa

My darling KC, one of my very favorite people in the world, had only one birthday request: “I want pizza.”  Easy enough, I gave her a list from which to pick, and Rubirosa came up the winner.  The menu tantalized her for weeks beforehand; every other day I received a new message with another suggestion for something she wanted to eat there, and I agreed – the menu looked like it was tailored entirely to the things she likes to eat.  I was excited.  Since we were a group of six, and the small pies came with 6 slices each, [...]

Giano

I’m not sure if I’ve ever mentioned how much I adore my girl KC here.  Well, I do.  She’s one of my favorite people in the world; the girl cares about her friends and family more than just about anyone I know.  She’s insane, and she’ll go out of her way for her loved ones like no one else.  She’s just awesome   So when she mentioned wanting to check out Giano in the East Village, I said of course! and we made plans to visit one gorgeous night in early May.  Beer Boor joined us as well, and we [...]

Convivio (Closed)

Oh, Convivio.  As I mentioned previously, after Matsugen and Lily O’Brien’s, I headed over to Convivio to meet up with the ladies of FBM for dinner.  We’d made plans to have dinner there during February so we could eat the old menu with the new chefs after the ‘divorce’ – yes, Michael White and Chris Cannon split their restaurant partnership, and unfortunately, Convivio, my favorite of the group that I’d visited thusfar, wound up with Chris Cannon, who’d hired new chefs.  Rumor was that the old menu would remain until post-February, when a new menu would be introduced, showcasing the new chef’s [...]

Da’Silvana

For our recent semi-monthly meet up, BFF and I decided to go get sushi at a place local to my and her boyfriend’s apartments (he lives within walking distance of me now).  As you can see above, we did not get sushi, as the place we wanted to go to is closed on Tuesdays!  Boo.  But not to fear - I’d heard good things about Da’Silvana, a few doors down from the sushi place, and had been meaning to check it out anyway.  So into the relatively empty restaurant we trooped, no worries, because it was still pretty early.  I thought [...]
