Takahachi’s long been on my radar, but I finally was able to grab some goodies with DLS before our dinner at Wu Liang Ye, to be enjoyed afterwards. For $1, I picked up a container of black sesame croutons. I think they just use leftover black sesame bread that they haven’t been able to sell and cut it for croutons – that’s perfectly fine by me, I really enjoyed the crunch of these and the subtle black sesame flavor. DLS chose a green tea macaron, which boasted lots of green tea flavor but lacked the crisp crack of the shell [...]

After a long day touring the Financial District (Bodies, WTC Memorial, Irish Hunger Memorial, Battery Park, and all sorts of fun things – I give a great informational/historical tour of the Downtown area!), DLS and I walked up through Nolita to meet StB and C2 for dinner. Along the way, though, I suddenly noticed a sign and thought – holy we’re outside Dominique Ansel! so I insisted we go in and have a small bite. Because Dominique Ansel was the executive pastry chef when I went to Daniel and I dream about those madeleines… I dream about them. DLS looked [...]

Post-Vinitaly, Beer Boor and I decided to walk over to Madison Square Eats as he’d not yet been this go-round (and I’d been too many times to count). Yes, it’s long over now (I’m writing this just as it’s ended, and we went two days before it ended, but all of these items are available elsewhere, so you should heed my advice and seek out the ones I liked!) – but I write about everything I eat so it would be a failing on my part not to mention this I’ve heard so much about Roberta’s that I finally got [...]

The girls get together every Friday for dinner, drinks, whatever to blow off steam after a long work week, and on this particular day, Bosie Tea was chosen as the location. Though the place was empty when we arrived and never filled up, the pastry case was lit up and welcoming. Service was attentive and friendly, and we were never ignored. The menus were scattered with tea-related quotes. I thought this one was particularly cute. “Never trust a man who, when left alone in a room with a tea cozy, doesn’t try it on.” Of course, in today’s day and [...]
Top Ten Pastry Chefs in America 2011

Recently ICE hosted Dessert Professional’s annual awards ceremony, honoring the ten best pastry chefs in America. The Blind Baker covered this event in three parts last year, so yep, as Yvo’s not a huge fan of sweets and had another event to attend, she could only stop by for a short time, so I picked up the slack and made the huge sacrifice to eat my way through their confections. With some time before the ten winners were introduced, we were able to wander through the kitchens as the chefs and their teams set up for the onslaught. Here, Yoni [...]
