As you probably already know, we at Feisty Foodie love Korean Fried Chicken, particularly at Bon Chon. A couple months back, InBundles came out with a deal of $20 for $40 worth of food from the Bon Chon near the Empire State Building. After I bought the deal, I saw the fine print that it was basically only available if you go before 5 pm. With the proliferation of deal websites out there, I have come to the realization that these deals can end up being the proverbial albatross around my neck. It seems most of the deals I purchase, [...]

After the Rums of Puerto Rico event, I realized we were just across the street from Bon Chon and that I had a 50% off Scout Mob for that location. Not that any of us needed more alcohol, but I thought it’d be good to get some food in our bellies… especially considering how toasted BeerBoor was by this point. We started off with an order of zucchini fries, because I like fried zucchini and I’ve liked these every time I’ve had them at any BonChon. I wasn’t disappointed this time – still crisp on the outside, with moist, fully cooked zucchini [...]

I first heard about UFC many years ago on Avenue Food, which mentioned it as one of the first – if not the first – Korean Fried Chicken place in New York. I wanted to go back then, but the area just isn’t where I pop by for a quick bite… when I go there, it’s because I planned to, not just on a whim. But then, back in August, Groupon (referral URL) released this deal: $5 for $10 of food at UFC. Hey, it’s half off. Why not? Of course, the Groupon was purchased, I promptly forgot all about it and [...]

This past Saturday I was invited to the newest combatant in what some are calling the “Fried Chicken Wars.” (My friend, Hungry, was originally invited, but she couldn’t go.) The location of this war is 5th Avenue between 32nd & 33rd street. With the opening of Bon Chon, it now neighbors Kyochon and Mad for Chicken. I am a pacifist, so I like to say that these restaurants will be known as the KFC Trifecta. No, not Kentucky Friend Chicken, Korean Fried Chicken! The Colonel has nothing on this. This was the first weekend they were open. There was a [...]
BonChon on John (again)

I recently went back to Bonchon on John for post-happy-hour-munchies. This time, we were hooked up to the ultimate since Cookie knew the owner apparently. Awesomeness! We started off with an order of dumplings, which were alright. Great snack type food but nothing mind boggling or game changing. Sir Eats A Lot ordered a chicken and a beef taco. I know he enjoyed these greatly, and I tried a bite of each and agreed they were pretty damn good. Great sauce on both, and moist protein with a good tortilla. Nom. Pretty standard fries. The chicken, per usual, was deliciously crisp and [...]
