I headed down to DC over Easter weekend because I wanted to catch the cherry blossoms… but with a mild winter and an unseasonably warm end to winter, the blossoms were all gone by that time, ugh. I saw more blossoms in NYC than I did in DC… in any case, I asked my friend Aimee for suggestions where to eat. She mentioned Good Stuff Eatery whose owner, Spike Mendelsohn, I’d previously met. (I was feeling particularly lazy and uninclined to look up my own places to visit.) When we arrived, I was pretty surprised to see how it was [...]

One Sunday morning, I met up with FS for brunch and shopping – the recipe for a perfect Sunday, in my opinion. I always enjoy Five Points and it was apparently on her list, and because they take reservations it was the perfect choice. I went with my standard choice, Smoked Salmon Benedict – made slightly different here, using a cheddar biscuit as the base, topped with sauteed rapini before adding the smoked salmon, poached eggs and hollandaise. The hollandaise was lemony and tangy, without overwhelming and instead just enhancing the salty goodness of the smoked salmon… the poached eggs [...]

We like ScoutMob. The girls and I like to go out on Fridays, but it gets very expensive, so we’re constantly looking for deals and ways to save money while still enjoying ourselves – especially with a wedding in Hawaii coming up *wink*, every penny counts! So when a recent ScoutMob came up for Rare Bar & Grill in Chelsea, we dutifully trooped over to check the place out at 50% off (up to $25 value). (That’s one of our biggest problems; it’s 50% off, with a limit to the discount amount; with a group of 6-8 girls, we reach [...]

A recent jaunt through midtown found me attempting to go to Bill’s Burger Bar for lunch, but it was super super packed, so I wandered over to Prime Burger… which was sort of nearby. I ordered a black & white milkshake, which came quickly. It was pretty standard, neither amazing nor life altering, but good – just what I was craving. To counter all that sugar, I decided I also needed curly fries… fried perfectly, crispy, crunchy, yum! And here’s where I ran into trouble: I rarely use ketchup, but somehow I felt I needed something to dip my curly [...]

For JP’s birthday in late December, the gang met up at Rare Bar & Grill over on Lexington Ave for burgers. As we waited for the rest of the gang to show up – BF & I were the first to arrive, surprisingly, exactly on time – I decided I wanted a (gin) martini. No, that is not a martini – I browsed the cocktail menu and found a drink called the blood orange cosmo; Absolut Mandarin, cointreau, lime juice and blood orange puree. But I didn’t want vodka, so I politely asked the server if he could switch both [...]
