As I’ve mentioned a few times now, I’m on a really big Malaysian kick – dragging TC and DLS along with me to various Malaysian restaurants around the city. This time, TC and I returned to Penang – where we’ve both been multiple times in the past – and ordered some different dishes. For TC, har mee or udang mee, which was not spicy enough and not nearly as red as the version seen at Satay. He thought it was only OK, sadly. An order of roti canai, as is my usual. Crisp, pillowy, chewy, and just all around great, [...]

FeistyMom’s got jokes… thus the title of this post. My mother is one of the most important people in my life. We don’t always see eye to eye on things, and I’m probably a little too similar to my father for her tastes sometimes – ie, super stubborn, talks too much, and a bit, well, I can insert my choice of adjectives there but as I said, I talk too much and she would probably not like me to share too much here In any case, I talk a lot about my father here – but I never really talk [...]

As it is every January, Snorlax’s birthday came and like the good big brother he is, he arranged for his birthday dinner to be the day after I returned from Montreal instead of while I was there (his birthday is suspiciously close to MLK weekend every year…). To my surprise and delight – you’ll find out why in a few days – instead of choosing his usual go-to, High Pearl, he chose Canton Gourmet, where I’d been a few times but rarely for dinner. Per usual when dining at a Cantonese restaurant with my brother, he chose to start with soup. I forget [...]
Labor Day – Feisty Family BBQ

FeistySis, knowing I am going through a rough patch, decided to have a BBQ over Labor Day weekend. Low attendance as my brother couldn’t make it, so it was just her family + our mother and I. I was put on salad duty… very simple salad. Romaine lettuce, grape tomatoes and carrot shavings. I also brought over Beer Boor’s homemade tortilla chips and the pico de gallo I’d made for our homemade nachos. FeistyMom and FeistySis could not stop raving over this – both the pico de gallo, which they said was very fresh tasting and light (there’s no [...]
