Marseille

StB, the lost Bear (ok, she’s not lost, I know where she moved to, it’s just far enough that I only see her once every few months instead of once or twice a month now), returned home for a weekend and made a point to have dinner with the former FC… which I forced myself to go to because I wanted to see her, even though I had an exam the next morning at 9am.  (And it was a good thing I did; I received a 104 on the exam.  I didn’t even realize you could get over 100 on [...]

Vegas Gluttony: Bally’s Sterling Brunch Buffet

HB and I have been to Vegas together a few times (sometimes with the girls, sometimes with the BFs, sometimes just us two), and have talked about checking out the Bally’s Sterling Brunch (supposedly the best buffet in all of Las Vegas) quite a bit.  However, when other people have been with us, they have hardly wanted to fork over the cash, so we’ve always opted out.  With just us two, though, we were like, well, why not, let’s see what the fuss is!
The Sterling Brunch – reservations recommended – costs $85/person and – yes, you read that [...]

Vegas Gluttony: Carnival World Buffet at the Rio

Oops, I forgot to take a photo of the outside… but it’s pretty easy to find.  If you take any of the FREE shuttles from Bally’s/Paris or Harrah’s to Rio (you don’t have to be staying at any of those hotels to take the free shuttle!), it drops you right in front of the entrance to the casino that leads straight to this buffet.  And if you’re really nice… well, you can email me and I’ll email you a coupon for this buffet, $5 off per person in your party up to 4 people.  (Yes, I’ll email you the coupon [...]

A Walk down Austin Street in Forest Hills

Let’s take a walk, shall we?
On any given Sunday, I take a walk up to Austin St. in Forest Hills for a few reasons.  Partially to get some exercise and fresh air, partially to check out what’s new in the area, and partially just for the heck of it.  It’s a nice brisk walk and there’s always something to buy!

First stop is always Sakura-ya, especially if I haven’t eaten lunch yet.  I like to wander around inside and browse the Japanese market for all sorts of goodies, most great for bento.  They have a small section of bento [...]

Stay-cation 2008

I kind of hate the term, but since someone else coined it, whatever: I took all of last week off from work in order to take care of some personal business.  Taking vacation from work but not going anywhere is called “Stay-cation” now… Honestly, it feels weird to not go anywhere, but I am trying to save money, so it made sense.  Even though I still went out… as the pictures will show!
Friday, June 20, lunch:

Exactly the reason I avoided street meat for so long.  Yes, I had a tummy ache later.  This awful place on Water and John Streets [...]
