Molten Chocolate Cake

Being a full-time student with three jobs (including writing for The Feisty Foodie) doesn’t leave me with much time or energy to bake.   I know many of you can sympathize with this.  Unfortunately, I can’t give each activity the justice it deserves without compromising on something else.  It took me a long time to decide to step down as the Blind Baker. But fear not!  I leave you with one last baking adventure. I’ve always wanted to make a molten chocolate cake and over a recent long weekend, I decided to give it a shot.  But I didn’t know where [...]

Recipe Fridays: Reinventing the TV Dinner pt 2.

A trip to Ikea found me holding this in my hand for a few minutes before I decided why the heck not.  It was $4-5 for the jar of orange and elderflower marmalade.  If you’ve read my blog at all in the past few months, you know how I adore elderflower and am obsessed with it in all forms (and may recall me mentioning the availability of elderflower syrup at Ikea for a very low price, too! which I picked up another bottle during this trip as well).  I didn’t really know what to do with it, since I don’t [...]

Samuel Adams Chocolate Bock

My once-per-year wait for a Samuel Adams offering has finally ended. A recent visit to Costco yielded the Winter Classics Variety Pack, the annual case (and twelve-pack) offering from Boston Beer Co. that combines six Samuel Adams beers in one convenient package. Some of the beers only appear in this packaging, so it’s typically the only way to score some of the beers in the Sam lineup. I happen to enjoy most of the varieties on display, especially since the awful Cranberry Lambic was ejected. In its place various beers make an appearance, and this year, it’s the Chocolate Bock, [...]

I am way, way late to post this, but I really wanted to share the pictures and how attending this demonstration changed my perspective and how I learned a few things.  I attended an event back in October – the day before my birthday, as it happens – hosted by Valrhona.  Alex Espiritu, a pastry chef from Valrhona USA, demonstrated a series of desserts.  We were able to taste each one in succession.  Unfortunately, my memory says the above had apple in it, and my recipe booklet doesn’t have a recipe that contains apple, so I’m pretty confused.  In any [...]

Scharffen Berger Chocolate Adventure Contest Launch!

To kickoff the 4th Annual Scharffen Berger Chocolate Adventure contest – theme: cupcakes, a bunch of food bloggers were invited into the kitchens at Astor Center for a cupcake competition and the secret ingredient reveal. When I arrived a little late, I was handed this drink, a Mango-cocoa martini.  I didn’t taste any mango, but it was pretty chocolatey and strong on the alcohol.  (Like my fingerless gloves?  I love these!  I took them off while we prepped the cupcakes, though.)  There were hors d’oeuvres floating around that I missed out on unfortunately, but I saw one and it looked like [...]
