I had the great pleasure to attend an event showcasing the lovely Green & Black’s brand of chocolate, which is completely organic. Before this, I hadn’t much experience with the chocolate, but I got to sample many different kinds over the course of the evening. Even more fun? We each sat down in front of these trays and were then informed… it was a quickfire challenge! I don’t watch Top Chef or those types of cooking reality shows, but the gist was that we had 7 minutes to create a unique tiramisu from what was in front of us: sugar, [...]

It’s that time of year again – Scharffen Berger’s annual contest was just launched, and they threw another awesome kick off party to which I was invited! (I attended in 2009 and 2010 as well, click to see info on those parties!) This year’s theme is Elevate a Classic Dessert – take a classic chocolate dessert recipe and twist it to make it EVEN BETTER. Xocolatti was created by Shaineal Shah, whose goal was to “create a brand for chocolate connoisseurs that was respectful of the heritage of fine chocolates, but also offered an innovative and artistic experience.” Though I am by [...]

Recently ICE hosted Dessert Professional’s annual awards ceremony, honoring the ten best pastry chefs in America. The Blind Baker covered this event in three parts last year, so yep, as Yvo’s not a huge fan of sweets and had another event to attend, she could only stop by for a short time, so I picked up the slack and made the huge sacrifice to eat my way through their confections. With some time before the ten winners were introduced, we were able to wander through the kitchens as the chefs and their teams set up for the onslaught. Here, Yoni [...]

Being a full-time student with three jobs (including writing for The Feisty Foodie) doesn’t leave me with much time or energy to bake. I know many of you can sympathize with this. Unfortunately, I can’t give each activity the justice it deserves without compromising on something else. It took me a long time to decide to step down as the Blind Baker. But fear not! I leave you with one last baking adventure. I’ve always wanted to make a molten chocolate cake and over a recent long weekend, I decided to give it a shot. But I didn’t know where [...]
