If you’ve been reading my site for any real amount of time, you’ll know quite a lot about me. Perhaps you may realize I kind of, well, detest tofu. I’ve been giving tofu a chance this past year, if only for the reason that tastebuds change and I really do adore tofu skin (inari sushi, for one thing, is near and dear to me). So, why not? I actually remember this dish my mother used to make when I was a kid, one of the very few ways I’d actually eat tofu. It was fried, crispy on the outside, creamy [...]

Doesn’t that name just… strike fear in your heart? It kind of makes my stomach turn. Just a little bit though. Not so much I couldn’t eat a few more… Originally, I was going to split this into three posts, because even in a singular post, I’m pretty damn verbose. But I decided that to properly display the very gross behavior I committed on the actual day of my birthday, I would share everything I had for lunch in one post. (Dinner will still be a separate post. What, you thought I skipped dinner just because I stuffed my fat [...]

I had the good fortune to attend a Foodbuzz Featured Publishers dinner at Spice Market “recently” (October 18, if you must know! – I’m catching up!). Stacy graciously put together the event, and I had a wonderful time sampling everything that was proffered. When we sat down, a menu was at each of our place settings. I was surprised when we weren’t asked what we wanted, but instead brought each dish for the tables to share (multiple servings for our large group), which was a great way to try everything on the above menu. Nice! I also made it a [...]

Growl, I started writing this post with a lovely story about how making-Asian-food averse I am, but it got eaten and now I’m just staring at this page blankly. I even linked to mise en place and talked about how much prep work goes into Asian recipes… well, I guess you get the gist now, so not much more of my rambling. You may (or may not) be surprised that most of my friends don’t really cook. Actually, I shouldn’t say that. The friends who do cook usually – really, I should shut my mouth right now before I stick [...]

A week after I came back from San Francisco, I found myself in Flushing for dim sum. Ahhh, dim sum. I grew up going to dim sum nearly every weekend, and took it very much for granted. Dim sum is a social affair (sort of; for my family, who didn’t really go to dim sum socially the way others do, expecting, perhaps even wanting to run into others that you knew there, it was just about the eating, and that’s okay with me, I always find it a bit awkward to bump into people when I’m eating, and it happens [...]
