As I mentioned in my post about the Hellmann’s Chicken Challenge (and if you haven’t entered their contest yet, why not?), I made their recipe for chipotle lime encrusted chicken. This time, I remembered to take pictures so you can see what it looks like. I started off with the Perdue perfect portions – 5 individually vacuum-sealed boneless-skinless chicken breasts. When I picked up the chicken, I threw the whole package in the freezer immediately. So I took two out to defrost in the morning and by the time I was ready to cook, they were both fully defrosted and [...]

Writing here has its perks. So it was last weekend when The Feisty Foodie tapped me to represent at this year’s Meatopia, a celebration of carnivorous gluttony with an eye toward locally-sourced, organic meats. TT went last year, so I took one for the Feisty Team this year. Actually I took a lot of photos, so this is one long post of meaty indulgence! Held on the not-yet-opened Pier 5 at Brooklyn Bridge Park, the wide expanse of concrete helped space out the booths and limit the lines. If only it wasn’t so hot and humid! But no matter, I [...]

There are a bunch of not-quite-fast-food charbroil grills all around the Upper East Side. Many of these specialize in chicken, done “their way” and served ridiculously cheaply for the amount of bird for the buck. I’ve been passing Chicky’s on 86 for many, many years (I used to live closer), but failed to give them a shot. Until this recent evening, when I went on in and ordered half the menu with a friend for consumption at home. Chicky’s offers a variety of entree choices, but… the name’s Chicky’s. We’re concentrating on chicken, with of course side dishes. The order [...]

Recently I met up with a friend in order to catch up and have a nice inexpensive dinner. We decided on Pio Pio, both of us having an interest in tasty rotisserie-style chicken that evening. Pio Pio of course brings other specialties which we also had to order, but there was no doubt the main course would be the pio pio, a whole chicken marinated in a “special and unique Peruvian sauce”. So we opted for the Matador Combo, which offered a bunch of side dishes to go with the Chicken Pio. First, naturally, a pitcher of sangria. I was [...]
NYC Cravings… again

Hey look! The NYC Cravings truck is recommended by Midtown Lunch My order of “porken” – if you request “porken” you receive both a piece of chicken and a piece of pork for the regular price. w00t! Love good deals! They’d run out of rice by the time I got there but the girl working there was kind enough to scoop every last bit of rice out for me, which turned out to be enough. Mixed with the pickled mustard greens and hey, look- a tea egg (bottom right)! – it was really good and I was really full. I [...]
