Brindle Room

You may or may not have heard that I’m on a Restaurant Hiatus – that’s right, for all of July & August 2011, I won’t be eating at restaurants.  The finer details are very much an “I’ll know it when I see it” type of thing, like Congress & porn, but ice cream for sure is totally allowed.  I’ve got lots of posts in the bank to last y’all through (and I intend to post more about what I eat at home) and when I come out the other side, hopefully, I’ll be posting near-”real”-time, or closer than I am used [...]

Brindle Room

You know when you first meet someone, and they tell you that you have to eat xx item because it’s so good?  If you’re anything like me, you smile and nod politely, file the information away… but you aren’t entirely sure you should trust their taste just yet because, after all, you JUST met them.  I don’t know if a person has the same taste as me – and it’s not that I think that person is wrong, I just don’t know if we agree on food.  I have a few friends whose tastes just don’t jibe with mine, and [...]

Burger Shoppe

One rather warm Friday afternoon, I made my way down to my old stompin’ grounds – across the street from where I used to work – and met up with my buddy, Cookie, for lunch… at Burger Shoppe.  I’ve been many times since they first opened (and I thought I’d posted about it more than once, but apparently not!), but right before I left, they released the mac&cheese burger… which, unfortunately, was only available after 4pm and I went during lunch to check it out.  Boo.  Since then, though, they put it on their regular menu, so this time, I [...]

Rare Bar & Grill (Chelsea)

We like ScoutMob.  The girls and I like to go out on Fridays, but it gets very expensive, so we’re constantly looking for deals and ways to save money while still enjoying ourselves – especially with a wedding in Hawaii coming up *wink*, every penny counts!  So when a recent ScoutMob came up for Rare Bar & Grill in Chelsea, we dutifully trooped over to check the place out at 50% off (up to $25 value).  (That’s one of our biggest problems; it’s 50% off, with a limit to the discount amount; with a group of 6-8 girls, we reach [...]

brgr: The Rtrn

Do restaurants put on a show for those who will write about them, only to fall back to mediocrity the rest of the time? There’s one way to find out. I attended the opening of this location a few months ago, and being in the area at dinner time, it was high time I wandered back to try again, this time paying my own way, with the help of a $10 gift card received at that opening. I arrived a bit past normal dinner hours, so I had much of the main bench to myself. A few patrons in ones [...]
