Good Stuff Eatery – DC

I headed down to DC over Easter weekend because I wanted to catch the cherry blossoms… but with a mild winter and an unseasonably warm end to winter, the blossoms were all gone by that time, ugh. I saw more blossoms in NYC than I did in DC… in any case, I asked my friend Aimee for suggestions where to eat. She mentioned Good Stuff Eatery whose owner, Spike Mendelsohn, I’d previously met. (I was feeling particularly lazy and uninclined to look up my own places to visit.)  When we arrived, I was pretty surprised to see how it was [...]

5 Leaves

A while back, I posted about Minetta Tavern and lamented a burger that didn’t live up to its hype (which is quite common in this fair city, actually).  Scott Gold (celebrated author of The Shameless Carnivore – affiliate link) responded that he’d been enjoying the burger at 5 Leaves in Brooklyn and suggested I give it a go, and as I happened to be in the area the next day, I decided to check it out. There’s no denying that when I approached the restaurant, I grew rather concerned based on the demographic being served already. I was surprised that [...]

Peter Luger – Burger

You all know how I love baseball, but the past few months has seen me watching more football than I’ve watched in my entire life, for one simple reason: fantasy football.  This year was my inaugural fantasy football season, and I think I dig it… What’s this got to do with Peter Luger, you ask?  Well, the winner (not me) received a lunch at Peter Luger, courtesy of the losers (one of which was me).  I would finally get to try this burger everyone’s raving about!  The bread basket was so monstrous, someone requested I take a photo of it.  [...]

Citi Field – Keith’s Grill

As I mentioned last time, I’ve eaten most of the food at the park that I deem interesting.  However, new things do pop up from time to time, and since I’ve been hearing about Keith’s Grill – named after Keith Hernandez – said to offer burgers the way Keith himself likes them – I knew what I had to do.   So one gorgeous afternoon when the Mets were playing the Angels  - these are not my normal seats, no, my darling mother-in-law’s friend offered BF and I tickets to these seats, and I took this picture to show how close I [...]

Corner Burger

I found myself in Brooklyn for food again recently – apparently, the way to get me to go to Brooklyn is proffer a Groupon; so Corner Burger was the destination. The lure? POUTINE.  TWELVE DIFFERENT WAYS. My dining companion ordered a burger topped with pickled jalapenos, roasted red peppers, chipotle sauce and pepperjack cheese. But to start, we went with fried pickles. Piping hot when they arrived, once they’d cooled down a bit, had a great crunch to them. The breading was a little weak, but I found these pleasant enough to munch on and dip in the accompanying ranch [...]
