One chilly March Saturday, I headed over to the American Museum of Natural History to check out this really cool exhibit – Beyond Planet Earth: The Future of Space Exploration. It was a really interesting exhibit, and if you’re into space stuff, I highly recommend it – though do be warned that this is a separate ticket cost from the museum itself, though admission to the museum is included. I think it was $20 a person, which may not be worth it to you if you’re not THAT into space (we didn’t really walk around the museum too much afterwards; [...]

Everyone has one of those restaurants near their apartment that they walk by all of the time, but never actually have gone to. Barbounia, a couple blocks north of Union Square, is one of those restaurants. In the past when I have walked by, it appeared to be one of those big box restaurants that would not be out of place in the Meatpacking District instead of Gramercy. It wasn’t until recently that our friend, KR said that they have a great brunch that we should check out. As part of a belated birthday gift, KR treated CT to brunch [...]
Five Points

One Sunday morning, I met up with FS for brunch and shopping – the recipe for a perfect Sunday, in my opinion. I always enjoy Five Points and it was apparently on her list, and because they take reservations it was the perfect choice. I went with my standard choice, Smoked Salmon Benedict – made slightly different here, using a cheddar biscuit as the base, topped with sauteed rapini before adding the smoked salmon, poached eggs and hollandaise. The hollandaise was lemony and tangy, without overwhelming and instead just enhancing the salty goodness of the smoked salmon… the poached eggs [...]

Christmas morning in Hell’s Kitchen found DLS and I wondering what to eat – if anything would be open, that is. Luckily, the diner a rather short but chilly walk away was open, so we headed inside to grab a quick breakfast. The brunch menu was in effect since it was a Sunday morning. A biscuit arrived, which I thought a bit odd as we’re in the north and as a born&bred Yankee, biscuits aren’t really what I reach for on the table in the morning. A small plate of fruit salad accompanied the brunch special. DLS and I both [...]

What do people in NYC do on Sunday mornings? They have brunch, of course. DLS and I headed to one of my neighborhood staples, 5 Burro Cafe, one December Sunday morning, because I’d been curious about the brunch there for quite a while. DLS ordered the Western omelet, which he liked. (And yes, I teased him for ordering what I thought was the least Mexican dish on the menu.) I’ve enjoyed huevos rancheros at many places in the past, so I saw no reason not to get these here. Well, the rancheros sauce here – the red underneath my eggs [...]
