Tuesdays with TT: Porchetta

According to Wikipedia, porchetta is a savory, fatty, and moist boneless pork roast of Italian culinary tradition. The body of the pig is gutted, deboned, arranged carefully with layers of stuffing, meat, fat, and skin, then rolled, spitted, and roasted, traditionally over wood. Porchetta is usually heavily salted in addition to being stuffed with garlic, rosemary, fennel, or other herbs, often wild. According to me, porchetta is DELICIOUS! CT and I actually visited this tiny storefront in the East Village a little over a year ago during the Taste of 7th Street. Since we only had a palm-sized bite of [...]

Tuesdays with TT: Rossini’s

A couple weeks back my Dad mentioned that my sister MSC would be in town one night for dinner. She has lived in Austin the past couple of years but would now be going off to Costa Rica for a couple months to work and live on a ranch/hostel. She had done this in the past, but this time will be for a longer term. Since she was busy unpacking her life at my parent’s house, they didn’t have a lot of time for dinner, so it was decided that we should find a place in the neighborhood. Rossini’s is [...]

Hecho en Dumbo

A while back, our favorite deal site, Blackboard Eats, came out with a deal for 30% off Hecho en Dumbo. Unfortunately, it was limited to brunch, lunch or the weekend late night menu. With its location on the Bowery and my late night habits of SLEEPING, brunch was our only option. The restaurant is pretty unique in that it actually moved from Brooklyn to Manhattan last year. CT and I both love Mexican food so we made an extra effort to plan ahead for brunch. We arrived a little early and had to wait outside with a few other people. [...]

Tuesdays with TT: Cafe Kristall

After CT and I made plans to get drinks in Soho with some friends, we needed a place to get a bite to eat beforehand preferably nearby. I checked the multitude of available Blackboard Eats deals to see if any of those restaurants were in the area. I had not heard much about Cafe Kristall, but after checking the menu it looked like a tasty option. The restaurant was actually located in the back of the Swarovski boutique. While the space was pretty beautiful with crystals everywhere, the downside was the restaurant had to close when the store did at [...]

Tuesdays with TT: The Mermaid Inn

One recent Saturday CT and I had a late-starting engagement party in the East Village, so we decided to also get dinner in the neighborhood. We checked the deals currently out there and decided on The Mermaid Inn with its Blackboard Eats deal. We had previously eaten at the sister restaurant, Mermaid Oyster Bar and enjoyed that a lot. CT’s close friend, KR, was also able to join us for some seafood. Since we did not plan ahead and make a reservation, it was about an hour and a half wait. We weren’t in a rush and there were plenty [...]
