Writing here has its perks. So it was last weekend when The Feisty Foodie tapped me to represent at this year’s Meatopia, a celebration of carnivorous gluttony with an eye toward locally-sourced, organic meats. TT went last year, so I took one for the Feisty Team this year. Actually I took a lot of photos, so this is one long post of meaty indulgence! Held on the not-yet-opened Pier 5 at Brooklyn Bridge Park, the wide expanse of concrete helped space out the booths and limit the lines. If only it wasn’t so hot and humid! But no matter, I [...]

Hog Pit

After the MomTrends event, FeistySis was still hungry… Since she rarely ever gets out to the city to hang out anymore (product of working in LI, living in LI, and having two kids!), I suggested we walk over a few blocks to Hill Country BBQ. However, on the walk over, she decided she’d rather go across the street from Hill Country and hit up Hog Pit NYC. Since I’d never been, I thought heck, why not? It sounded interesting, and looked like a dive/biker bar, and I’m cool with that… FeistySis had never had fried pickles before, so when I [...]

Legends Bar: The Ranger Texas BBQ

About a month ago, the master of all things BBQ himself – James from The Eaten Path – asked me if I’d like to join him and some other food folks for lunch at Legends Bar: The Ranger Texas BBQ (hey, you look at that sign and you tell me what the name of the place is!).  After trying unsuccessfully one Tuesday afternoon – the bar is open, but the smoker is cleaned on Tuesdays, so no ‘cue – we returned on a Friday to feast. From the outside, Legends looks like any other sports bar in the area might.  [...]

Hill Country Take Out

About a year ago, I purchased a bunch of Restaurants.com gift certificates to Hill Country.  I used two, then quickly forgot about the other two (and lost them, then found them, a couple of times, too!)… but they were quickly expiring, so the day after I went to Hill Country Chicken, I headed back down and picked up a lot of take out.The first order was just meat and collards, and came to about $19.  1/2 a lb of brisket moist… moist, fatty and delicious…and a jalapeno-cheese sausage from Kreuz’s.   Lots of snap to the sausage, a little kick, and bits [...]

RUB BBQ

I’m a strange bird.  A place can be on my list for quite a while, for whatever reason, and for no solid, real reason will it jump to the very top.  And so I found myself at RUB BBQ one slightly rainy night… Weirdly enough, I used to take dance classes across the street once a week for about 6 months, but I never managed to cross the street and try it, though this night, I got up off my couch and dragged my lazy butt into the city to have dinner with a friend.   I’m a sucker for wings, and appetizers, and fried foods, [...]
