Whenever I hear about a new place opening in the Financial District close to my office, I get excited, even though I don’t plan on being here forever (I swear it!). I even walked down there to take pictures of the place when it first opened, but I forgot to post them cuz I don’t use Flickr and whatever. I kind of forgot about them for a while since I’ve been focusing on bringing lunch. But then, as usual, the lovely Daniel Krieger reminded me with a post on Midtown Lunch: Downtown Lunch that the place was open, in business, and bringing [...]

Yes, that is my name plate… and my real last name… but who cares about that! Look at the cupcakes! For Blondie & Brownie’s recent blogaversary (they’re 1!), they invited a specially selected group of people (yes, I was included!) to Bamboo 52 to celebrate. Not one to show up to a party empty-handed, I headed over to my local Crumbs (Wall Street) to pick up some cupcakes, even though recently Blondie remarked they have been slipping in quality lately. I have to say that the Wall Street location is one of the newer ones in NYC and I’ve never [...]

Let’s take a walk, shall we? On any given Sunday, I take a walk up to Austin St. in Forest Hills for a few reasons. Partially to get some exercise and fresh air, partially to check out what’s new in the area, and partially just for the heck of it. It’s a nice brisk walk and there’s always something to buy! First stop is always Sakura-ya, especially if I haven’t eaten lunch yet. I like to wander around inside and browse the Japanese market for all sorts of goodies, most great for bento. They have a small section of bento [...]

I love those weekends that come together perfectly, with less to do than normal, where I can wake up at my leisure and stroll around my neighborhood, wandering in and out of random stores… a near-perfect day, so I say. This past Sunday, I actually woke up at 9 am, knowing I had a lot of stuff I wanted to do at a leisurely pace. I am thrilled to report that I managed to check off all 12 items on my To Do list, and still spend time with my boyfriend (and my dog, who, as you can see, wasn’t [...]
Birthday Week: Tealuxe, Boston

Boston & I have a very terse relationship. I don’t like Boston. Boston doesn’t care. Despite knowing that, I decided to give Boston one more chance. So when I decided to take a last minute birthday trip, Boston was still on the list of possibilities; I had my eye on trying Toscanini’s since reading about their burnt caramel ice cream on Serious Eats. (I was in the midst of this caramel kick; salted caramel hot chocolates, salted caramel ice cream, …) Boston won out over Philly (where I’ve been about a million times – it’s really rather close to NYC) and [...]
