Minni’s Shabu Shabu

Minni’s Shabu Shabu

Sometimes I plan to be active, but it doesn’t work out. Yes, mini-golf counts as being active! and we tried very hard to hit two different courses near me, but it just didn’t work out as one was closed because the season hasn’t started yet, and the other one… it was too late (ahem, and that is why I said 4pm is too late!).  Anyway, despite our non-exercise of driving around in frustration, we decided to grab dinner in Flushing since we were nearby … sort of … before heading into Manhattan to meet friends for dessert at Spot Dessert [...]

All You Can Eat Hot Pot (Flushing)

All You Can Eat Hot Pot (Flushing)

One rainy, chilly night, Hungry, TC, DLS and I headed out for all you can eat hot pot in Flushing.  We’d already done Shanghai Tide last year, so Hungry went to the internets and found this place with no English name on the sign outside, though a pretty modern looking inside.  We took our place at the table and asked about the all you can eat.  Individual pots – hallelujah!  That’s my preference.  These took a long time to get hot for some reason, strangely – induction is supposed to be really fast.  While we waited for our pots… for [...]

Tuesdays with TT: Shanghai Tide

Tuesdays with TT: Shanghai Tide

To continue our culinary staycation of 2011, we planned to go for hot pot in Flushing. It had been a couple years since CT & I last went and were waiting for winter to kick in for it to be hot pot weather. Unfortunately, we missed the FBM hot pot outing last year at Shanghai Tide, so we organized another outing during Christmas week. Unfortunately we had a smaller group than usual, but c’est la vie. Fortunately for us, the restaurant was pretty quiet since most people were smart enough to stay home. Not only was it cold, but it [...]

Momokawa

Momokawa

As I mentioned in a previous post, CT is spending the holidays this year in South Africa with some friends. The night before she left, I invited her out to a local restaurant for a nice dinner. I decided we would go to Momokawa. It is a very traditional, yet tiny restaurant tucked into a townhouse on east 28th Street. We actually tried going a year or so ago, but since they only have seating for 20 or so people, reservations are strongly recommended. After walking in, we knew we would be getting some great, authentic Japanese food considering the [...]

Shanghai Tide

Shanghai Tide

FBM would not be FBM without gluttony, and so it was one chilly Friday night we gathered for all you can eat hot pot with all you can drink Bud.  For $26, people.  After a *ahem* short wait for a table because, uh… this ding dong (me) was late and they gave away our table (we were only like 5 or 10 minutes late!), we were finally seated and thus began the hot pot night!  My bowl with soy sauce, fresh garlic, cilantro (a LOT of cilantro!), sesame oil, satay sauce… a mish mash of things.  Our broth, separated into [...]
