Millesime Oyster Happy Hour

Millesime Oyster Happy Hour

Back in the beginning of March, I saw on Grub Street that Millesime restaurant was offering a $1 oyster happy hour every night until 8 for all “R” months aka oyster season. Millesime opened a couple of years ago in the awkward space in the Carlton Hotel on Madison Avenue. Its Chef has quite the seafood pedigree, but unfortunately hasn’t gotten much press and is somewhat hard to find if you don’t know what you are looking for. CT’s parents have eaten a full meal there before and enjoyed it a lot, but it hasn’t been our list. Maybe a [...]

Tuesdays with TT: James Beard House- Feast of St. Joseph

Tuesdays with TT: James Beard House- Feast of St. Joseph

The Ides of March means a lot more to my family than the death of Caesar, it means it’s almost my Dad’s birthday. This year was quite the milestone as my Dad turned the big 7-0. With such an important birthday, Aunt B called me and said the two of us should plan something special. Taking a cue from what I planned for CT’s birthday back in January, I checked out if anything was going on at the James Beard House that night. On his actual birthday, the dinner was a Feast of St. Joseph featuring a lot of different [...]

Mo C Mo C

Mo C Mo C

Last month, CT and I head down to Princeton, NJ for the day to welcome her Mom back from her latest sabbatical to India. Fortunately, this time around was only for a month and not longer. After spending the afternoon with her and CT’s Dad, we went for an early dinner before heading back to NYC. After hearing our options, we decided to get Japanese food at Mo C Mo C right in the heart of town. Unfortunately, the online menu does not have prices listed so I can’t tell you how much each dish cost. I can say that [...]

Sik Gaek

Sik Gaek

As you may have realized by now from reading my blog, I adore Hungry. So when her birthday came around, I asked her where she’d like to go. She said Sik Gaek, gave me a guest list, and I happily planned a large group outing to this mystical place where you can eat live octopus, other live sea creatures, and Anthony Bourdain had once visited (so I’m told; I don’t watch that show). Do note that we went to the one in Sunnyside, because it’s closer to public transportation than the one in East Flushing. We wound up a group [...]

Benihana

I was invited to a press lunch at Benihana in Midtown in mid-January, and I almost had to go. I’ve actually been to Benihana once in the past – remember BF (now exBF)? One of our favorite things to do, years ago, was to just take off and go to Atlantic City on a whim, and one of those trips, we took along his friend, who, on the way home, driving through the city, wanted to thank us for taking him with us by taking us to lunch. At Benihana. His favorite restaurant, I believe he called it. I recall [...]
