Back in the beginning of March, I saw on Grub Street that Millesime restaurant was offering a $1 oyster happy hour every night until 8 for all “R” months aka oyster season. Millesime opened a couple of years ago in the awkward space in the Carlton Hotel on Madison Avenue. Its Chef has quite the seafood pedigree, but unfortunately hasn’t gotten much press and is somewhat hard to find if you don’t know what you are looking for. CT’s parents have eaten a full meal there before and enjoyed it a lot, but it hasn’t been our list. Maybe a [...]
Good Stuff Eatery – DC

I headed down to DC over Easter weekend because I wanted to catch the cherry blossoms… but with a mild winter and an unseasonably warm end to winter, the blossoms were all gone by that time, ugh. I saw more blossoms in NYC than I did in DC… in any case, I asked my friend Aimee for suggestions where to eat. She mentioned Good Stuff Eatery whose owner, Spike Mendelsohn, I’d previously met. (I was feeling particularly lazy and uninclined to look up my own places to visit.) When we arrived, I was pretty surprised to see how it was [...]

A while back, I posted about Minetta Tavern and lamented a burger that didn’t live up to its hype (which is quite common in this fair city, actually). Scott Gold (celebrated author of The Shameless Carnivore – affiliate link) responded that he’d been enjoying the burger at 5 Leaves in Brooklyn and suggested I give it a go, and as I happened to be in the area the next day, I decided to check it out. There’s no denying that when I approached the restaurant, I grew rather concerned based on the demographic being served already. I was surprised that [...]

I found myself in Midtown for lunch one Friday afternoon, so I asked a friend to join me at Bill’s Burger Bar. We started off with the boneless chicken wings – barbecue since I didn’t feel like eating spicy after eating Wu Liang Ye the previous night – which were crunchy, a little oversauced, but tasty in their own right. I definitely prefer eating dark meat, but these sufficed as a nice starter. My bacon cheddar burger arrived cooked to the requested doneness (medium rare), and was actually pretty tasty. My friend noted that he didn’t think these were particularly [...]
Brindle Room Re-do

After I posted about my experience with the Brindle Room burger, Yvo suggested we go back for a re-do to see if the burgers have indeed gone down in quality since she first started going there. Since Hungry from Tasty Eating felt the same way as I did about the burger, she came too with Mr. M&P, TC and DLS also came to round out the group. (Yvo says: Actually, Hungry – who ate her burger with me – simply felt she should eat the burger without eating fried chicken first, to give it a fair shake.) Like the Friday [...]
