One early Sunday morning found DLS and I in Chinatown for dim sum. I actually eat dim sum a little more than that tag would have you believe; I just often don’t bother taking pictures because dim sum is usually a group affair and the way food is served is not conducive to taking photos before anyone touches the dish. I actually wasn’t going to take photos this time, either, but when DLS and I realized that no one else was joining us, he said, “You might as well,” and I said “heck why not.” (Golden Unicorn was chosen because [...]

One chilly March Saturday, I headed over to the American Museum of Natural History to check out this really cool exhibit – Beyond Planet Earth: The Future of Space Exploration. It was a really interesting exhibit, and if you’re into space stuff, I highly recommend it – though do be warned that this is a separate ticket cost from the museum itself, though admission to the museum is included. I think it was $20 a person, which may not be worth it to you if you’re not THAT into space (we didn’t really walk around the museum too much afterwards; [...]

One Sunday morning, I met up with FS for brunch and shopping – the recipe for a perfect Sunday, in my opinion. I always enjoy Five Points and it was apparently on her list, and because they take reservations it was the perfect choice. I went with my standard choice, Smoked Salmon Benedict – made slightly different here, using a cheddar biscuit as the base, topped with sauteed rapini before adding the smoked salmon, poached eggs and hollandaise. The hollandaise was lemony and tangy, without overwhelming and instead just enhancing the salty goodness of the smoked salmon… the poached eggs [...]

Do you believe in serendipity? That moment where needs and wants collide with special offers and you say “oh!” and without hesitation, you click ‘purchase’ on one of those numerous deal sites that proliferate currently? Maybe not, but when I saw a deal for Dominique Ansel Bakery on Gilt City, it seemed only right that I buy 3 of them. Yes… I said 3 of them. What? I know I’ll be back. And you know, I share… First up was an almond croissant, because of my obsession lately with almond croissants (I’d been going to Francois Payard Bakery for them), [...]
Via Quadronno

I’m a big believer in rewarding myself – for a job well done, or really, anything. One morning found me on the Upper East Side, so I headed to Via Quadronno – one of Martha Stewart’s favorite little cafes (she’s Tweeted photos of the latte/cappucinos they pull for her; one of them had a PANDA drawn into the foam!!!) – for a treat. Clearly, I am not as famous or important as Martha, so I received a simple (but pretty) design on my latte, which was the perfect companion to… I thought the menu said the croissants are from Francois [...]
