Cooking for DLS pt 5

Seriously, don’t you wish you were my friend? After learning all about olive oil, I walked down to DLS‘s in Hell’s Kitchen and cooked dinner for both of us – while lugging a 6pack of grapefruit Pellegrino, my newest drink obsession, to share with him. (Really, it’s shocking anyone could ever claim I was selfish…) His propensity towards Asian food left me making Asian food. His stupid electric stove top shutting off on me in the middle of cooking – well, technically, I’d finished frying the tofu, then shut the burner, wiped out the pan, and went to turn it [...]

Cooking for DLS pt 4

Remember those Safe Eggs I posted about a while back? Ever since then, I’d had a hankering to make spaghetti alla carbonara. When I discovered DLS had never had it – didn’t even know what it was – I knew what I had to do. Make spaghetti alla carbonara!  I picked up a package of already cubed pancetta from Trader Joe’s, and beat a few eggs with salt/pepper and cheese that isn’t in the picture (I used piave).  The matzoh crackers in the background are because I also made salted caramel chocolate covered matzoh sandwiches… yum. While some of the [...]

Cooking for DLS pt 2

As I mentioned in my last “Cooking for DLS” post, one of the ways I show I care is cooking for people. I’d had so much fun last time, that this time I went slightly more involved. Since DLS‘d enjoyed the mushroom crostini a lot, and it was similar to my clams with linguine method, I decided to go and make that for him – which he seemed really excited about. Note: I hate electric stove tops. His decided to shut off multiple times in the middle of cooking this, so I would say that it didn’t cook quite as [...]

Cooking for DLS

One of the (many) ways I show people that I care is cooking for them. I’ve had a few chances to thank DLS for being such a wonderful friend by cooking for him, and thought I’d share some of what I’ve made so far. After a day of apartment viewing, Shake Shack eating, and just general wandering around, being inside Eataly gave me the bright idea of making dinner to eat while watching the Pro Bowl. (Yes, that’s how long ago this was.) Because I was going to have to use his kitchen, I chose to use some shortcuts instead [...]

Recipe Fridays: Bulgogi Lettuce Wraps

Recipe Fridays: Bulgogi Lettuce Wraps

As I mentioned yesterday, I had lettuce coming out of my ears at one point.  Hungry made the comment that she’s used lettuce leaves as “taco shells” so I set out to do just that.    I had a ton of scallions from my CSA as well, so that was the topping.  BeerBoor gifted me a large jar of almond butter, so I doctored that to make a sauce as well.  But you want to know what the protein was… it’s so simple, I almost shouldn’t even mention this.  A package of Trader Joe’s “bool kogi” (bulgogi, marinated meat slices).  [...]
