Recipe Fridays: Fish Tacos

Recipe Fridays: Fish Tacos

Terrible photos, but fish tacos!  E-dee-licious, my yoga buddy, mentioned one night that she was going to make fish tacos.  Sounded so yummy and when she told me the method, they were SO easy, I had to make them right away!  I used flour tortillas because I don’t like corn tortillas, but you can use whichever you prefer.  E-dee-licious said she uses tilapia, but I used dover sole cuz it’s cheap and easy to find everywhere.  (I guess tilapia fits those qualifications as well, but when I went to the store, I found dover sole for like $3.99/lb.)  It’s [...]

Recipe Fridays: Raw Tomato Sauce

I’ve mentioned that I’m completely blessed and have an awesome life (not braggin’! just sayin’!) – this is just yet another example.  I’ve been in the market for a food processor for a while now; my mother and sister have tried to buy me a combination food processor/blender for a while as well.  (Because I live in an apartment and have extremely limited space, it seemed like the obvious solution to get one that shared a base.)  Unfortunately, reviews of combo machines were not favorable, and I hesitated to buy (or have my sister/mother buy) something that didn’t sound amazing.  [...]

Recipe Fridays: Homemade Banh Mi

Yep, MORE BANH MI.  I am nuts about banh mi, in case you couldn’t already tell.  The above was my first attempt; I went to Paris Sandwich (because I love their Paris Special banh mi best; I totally play favorites!) and picked up cha lua (pork roll), pate, Vietnamese mayo, and pickled carrots/daikon… along with one of their baguettes.  Crisp, chewy, just amazing, I daresay this is the bread of my dreams.  So I spread a little pate on one side, a little Vietnamese mayo on the other, topped with with the respective toppings and went to town.  It [...]

Product Review: Trader Joe’s Vanilla Instant Pudding

Recently, walking through Trader Joe’s, I saw a big sign that said NEW PRODUCT.I walked over and saw stacks of boxes: chocolate & vanilla instant puddings.  Hmmm.  I’m not one much for pudding, but it looked interesting, and I had this vague image of making something interesting and dessert-like for BF.  I’m a nice girlfriend, what can I say?  So I picked up one of each… the directions looked simple enough, basically just whisk together the packet contents and 2 cups of cold milk.  I made it into a big bowl, and then decided to mix it with granola.  [...]

Recipe Fridays: Stuffed Peppers

Woo, another recipe!  Sort of… I’m not sure what you’ll say about this, since I have photographs of the one I don’t want you to make.  Well, there it is.  It was incredibly tasty but just a bit too dense for me.  I mean, it was basically a giant meatlump inside a pepper!  Which is good but then very dense, I can’t even imagine coupling this with mashed potatoes (which I wanted to do, and might do next time)…Since the recipe is so very simple, indulge me a moment while I explain how this came to be.  I [...]
