One day, between events, TC met up with me and we headed to Corrado Bakery to grab a snack and hang out, use an outlet to charge our phones and the wifi to surf the internet. TC was hungrier than I – we actually tried to visit Taim since I’d never been, but they were closed for the holiday week – so he got a prosciutto, mozz and pepper panini. I could tell he liked it but I’m sure he’ll offer his further opinion in comments! Since I wasn’t all that hungry, I chose toast topped with tomatoes and a [...]

I’ve posted quite a bit about Dominique Ansel Bakery, but here’s another one… Chouettes, which were airy puffs with sugar crystals on the outside. Light and tasty but I won’t order these again – not to my fancy. Fresh chocolate chip cookies that tantalized us with the scent, so we had to grab one and my oh my, these were fantastic. Soooo good, warm, and slightly cakey in the center with a chewy edge… mmm. It appears that stopping by Dominique Ansel pre-road trip is becoming a tradition… yes, this was the day before I headed to DC (posts to [...]

While I try to post every meal I consume, that just isn’t possible. So while I’ve posted about Ayza midtown you may not realize that I’ve been there a good handful of times – with the girls usually – to snack, drink, or both. I’ve enjoyed the atmosphere, the outdoor seating, the snacks and everything, but only posted about it that one time. Well, I was invited to go to the newest Ayza location – downtown – and have a ‘date night’ as it was called. We were greeted with little cups of spiced wine. I’m abstaining from alcohol currently, [...]

I had the amazing pleasure of recently being invited to a lunch celebrating Verlasso Salmon, a salmon farm down in Patagonia (Chile). Currently available through Fresh Direct (though they hope to expand eventually, of course), Verlasso strives to correct the misbegotten idea that farmed salmon is bad for you. Actually, conversation over lunch was really interesting. Fresh Direct had a few people on hand – including their resident nutritionist, who is obviously very passionate about her job and honestly cares about the customers as much as or more than her job – to talk about the product and how the [...]

The Ides of March means a lot more to my family than the death of Caesar, it means it’s almost my Dad’s birthday. This year was quite the milestone as my Dad turned the big 7-0. With such an important birthday, Aunt B called me and said the two of us should plan something special. Taking a cue from what I planned for CT’s birthday back in January, I checked out if anything was going on at the James Beard House that night. On his actual birthday, the dinner was a Feast of St. Joseph featuring a lot of different [...]
