Redhead

Redhead

Post-Dominique Ansel, TC and I headed over to The Redhead, where we’ve been talking about visiting for fried chicken since October. Buns served to us as we perused the menu were nothing special. We decided to start with an order of hush puppies with creme fraiche and caviar.  The caviar was decidedly of the ‘stinky’/fishy kind, and did nothing for the hush puppies, which were light and fried nicely – it just didn’t go. I think most people order this for the sheer novelty of the item, as we did, but not because it tastes good. TC decided to order [...]

Chikalicious

Chikalicious

Post-Pizza Roma, FS and I walked over to Chikalicious to continue our dessert bar exploration. I was pretty confused by there being two locations, directly across the street from each other, but one was closed. Turns out the Dessert Bar – which boasts wine pairings if you like – is only open on weekends, while the Dessert Club is a more casual setting, with counter service only. Funny, it was empty but as soon as we sat down, it became super packed. A moment here to say – I normally go out of my way to praise excellent service. Well, [...]

L’asso EV

L’asso EV

Sadly, as someone who eats out as often as I do, they cannot all be winners – but that doesn’t make the disappointment any less when I do get a dud. On this chilly Saturday evening in March, DLS, Lenny, FS and I headed over to L’asso. FS and I had discussed visiting a week or two prior to that, but schedules didn’t work out – and then ScoutMob came out with 50% off so obviously we had to go immediately. Small pieces of pita came as bread service, with olives, and all were fine – not standouts either way. [...]

Celebrate with Astor Center

Celebrate with Astor Center

I’ve been to a fair number of events at Astor Center now, and think it’s the perfect place for intimate affairs. I was invited recently to an event showcasing just how many different types of events you can throw there – cooking classes, lectures in rounded kitchens, demonstrations, weddings, and more. They have relationships with a large number of local purveyors as well, to help you figure out your catering or floral or whatever needs you may have for whatever event you’d like to throw. Whatever your needs, they can surely figure something out for them. Please note I attended [...]

Five Points

Five Points

One Sunday morning, I met up with FS for brunch and shopping – the recipe for a perfect Sunday, in my opinion. I always enjoy Five Points and it was apparently on her list, and because they take reservations it was the perfect choice. I went with my standard choice, Smoked Salmon Benedict – made slightly different here, using a cheddar biscuit as the base, topped with sauteed rapini before adding the smoked salmon, poached eggs and hollandaise. The hollandaise was lemony and tangy, without overwhelming and instead just enhancing the salty goodness of the smoked salmon… the poached eggs [...]
