One early Sunday morning found DLS and I in Chinatown for dim sum. I actually eat dim sum a little more than that tag would have you believe; I just often don’t bother taking pictures because dim sum is usually a group affair and the way food is served is not conducive to taking photos before anyone touches the dish. I actually wasn’t going to take photos this time, either, but when DLS and I realized that no one else was joining us, he said, “You might as well,” and I said “heck why not.” (Golden Unicorn was chosen because [...]

A while ago, I posted about going to Cha Chan Tang for their special tea and wanting to go back for food. Well, I did just that with Gary one night when we weren’t able to get into Nom Wah to watch the Knicks game (we’re both Time Warner subscribers, which means we were locked out of the beginning of this basketball season). He ordered a mango drink that came super topped high and was hilarious… while I got an almond milk tea, no bubbles, per my usual preferences. Tasty but standard. I ordered the fairly standard – to me, [...]

To wrap up CT’s Birthday weekend full of delicious food, we went with her family for one of our favorite breakfasts/brunches, DIM SUM! Since it was an extra special meal, she decided we should go to a more upscale place. We ended up at Red Egg. Being a more “high-end” place, they take reservations, so we didn’t have to wait, which is always nice. On the other hand, this meant that prices were a lot higher compared to other dim sum restaurants with dishes ranging from $2.75 all the way up to $6.50. CT says: Umm… I didn’t think it [...]

Directly after eating at Joe’s Ginger, we walked over to 456 Shanghai after a tip from a food blogger who will remain anonymous lest he comment here telling me that I’m wrong for no longer trusting his food opinions after he gave us this suggestion… Deviating from our normal Shanghainese order, I chose to start with what I thought would be light – cold sesame noodles. I actually thought this was a fake Chinese dish, but StB informed us that it was actually authentic – I confessed my first time having this dish was at Ollie’s and that got a [...]
Joe’s Ginger

Continuing our quest for soup dumpling nirvana, DLS and I hit up Joe’s Ginger after a long debate about its location and affiliation with Joe’s Shanghai. StB joined us, but she stuck with vegetarian dumplings (that I didn’t try or photograph). Since we planned on hitting two different places, we only ordered a steamer tray of dumplings at Joe’s. Though they took a bit to come out, immediately I was happy that they didn’t look as ugly as the soup dumplings at Joe’s Shanghai had. I was surprised by the distinct difference in quality from Joe’s Shanghai to Joe’s Ginger, [...]
