Last month, CT continued our annual tradition of visiting The House of Walker at The Altman Building. Every year, Johnnie Walker offers a free tasting of some of their whiskeys along with a short presentation on the history of the company. Although, it was pretty much unchanged from last year, how often do you get free drinks in NYC? Our session was over right around 8, so we made plans for dinner nearby. Last year, we went to the restaurant that shall not be named and had a less than pleasant experience. Since we visited that restaurant with a deal [...]

After sleeping in the day after we held the Father’s Day Gift Dinner feast, we decided to meet up with CT’s Father for brunch since he was in town the whole weekend and we didn’t get a chance to meetup yet. CT & I wanted to go to P.C. Richards to check out some new stoves, so we decided to go somewhere nearby. I remembered that Highpoint Bistro & Bar was nearby and offered quite a nice brunch. We enjoyed their clam bake back on July 4th a lot and wanted to return. Who knew it would be so soon? [...]

A few weeks ago, Beer Boor and I had plans to have tea at Three Tarts. Unfortunately, due to some odd circumstances, we found ourselves in the area without tea, so I suggested visiting Donatella, where I’d been last December and really enjoyed, telling him that we had to go as I know he enjoys this style of pizza. Of course, life happened, and we never found ourselves there… until now! I was pleased that when I said “I think it’s near here” it turned out to be literally an avenue away. I’m usually terrible at telling where I am [...]

A couple days before July 4th weekend, I read on Grub Street that “Highpoint Bistro & Bar will celebrate their first anniversary on July 4th with a $29 clam bake this weekend from Saturday to Monday. For the big day on Monday, they’ll expand the specials, including a $30 bottomless steamed clams.” I remembered Yvo and Beer Boor went to Highpoint last Fall for a press dinner to preview the new menu and enjoyed it very much, so based on their recommendation CT & I decided to check it out over the long weekend. We ended up going for an [...]

Last month, Yvo invited me along to the “Brunch by Simply Orange” event at The Institute for Culinary Education aka ICE. I have seen Simply Orange in stores and once bought its “Simply Limeade” to drink with lunch. I enjoyed it a lot, so I was interested to see what they would be promoting. I have also taken a bunch of cooking classes at ICE and consider it the best recreational cooking school in NYC. Yvo heard from the PR person that I would be the only guy at the class. As if that would scare me. I held my [...]
