One weekend in early February found me way out in Huntington at a friend’s store’s grand re-opening – it’s actually a really cool store, so you should definitely check it out if you play tennis. They have an online store too if you can’t get out to Huntington – click click. After hanging out for a few hours, though, a bunch of us were hungry, so we headed over to his favorite local Mexican restaurant. I admit, I didn’t have high expectations for authentic Mexican way out in Huntington, but that shows what I know… The place was kind of [...]

Today, something interesting happens: a restaurant brand with locations all over the country opens in Long Island… before one has opened in NYC. Gasp. Long Island has something NYC doesn’t! Okay, enough with being silly – I’m not sure they have plans to open in NYC just yet, in any case – but today marks the first NY location opening (please don’t tell me about the one in Cherry Hill, NJ; we all know that doesn’t count as NY). As such, I was invited to attend a press luncheon on St. Patrick’s Day to show off the menu a little [...]

Something amazing happened a short while ago. I discovered myself eating and enjoying spicy food… progressively more and more! Now, I don’t eat anything crazy, and I’m all about flavor over heat – and honestly, if something is served to me that isn’t spicy, I don’t really see a need to go out of my way to add heat… BUT if something is served spicy, I’ve been enjoying those dishes. What’s this got to do with anything? Well, my friend EL and I drove out to check out Pepperheads way out in LI, and picked up a couple of things. [...]

After an hour looking at puppies at the North Shore Animal League, DLS told me he was starving because he hadn’t eaten before meeting me in Queens (so I could drive to LI for the puppies!). So I thought for a split second and remembered that we were in Port Washington, where once upon a long long time ago, FeistySis took our father, mother and I to a couple of Mediterranean restaurants. Obviously I know this was ages ago because my father was there… in any case, I said, “I know of two places nearby that are pretty good – [...]

I didn’t take a picture of the outside, and I don’t know that I’ll be trying to send y’all to this place anyway. Mine. Go away. Well, no, also because it’s far from any public transportation, and when you see what I ate… well… yeah. Headed over to spend time with my family recently, and I was greeted with “We’re going to Old Country Buffet, yee-yee!” when I walked in the door. Ok, off we go in the car – I don’t even know how to get there, to be honest – and arrived at a ridiculous line. But we [...]
